Pentax Publicity on Huffington Post

So, it appears that a Huffington Post blogger used a white Pentax Kx to take some concert photos and endorsed the Pentax brand.

Couple of interesting points:

She is not a pro photog (though, she may be an excellent photog)
She received the camera the DAY BEFORE she used it at the concert
She used the KIT lens (how many questions in this forum are "what fast lens should I take to the ____ concert?")

Just thought that was noteworthy...

After reading the post you see that she had a press pass so she was quite close to the action. Usually when we ask those questions about what lens we should take we have the normal seats a little bit further out. Either way great to see Pentax get it's kudos on a non-photog centric media outlet.

Quite good photos for someone who hasn't shot in 10 years. That Kx is getting good press and developing a good reputation as a top notch low light camera.

Yeah, I have been pretty impressed with what I've seen from the Kx...but I'm still holding out for what's around the bend before I move on from my K10d.

I'm also somewhat surprised that she got advice from another photog

And wasn't pushed to buy one of the usual suspects.

But all over the internet you see reviews calling this camera best in class and DPR's review said:

The K-x is surprisingly a lot better better in low light than its bigger brother K-7, and is no doubt one of the currently best performing APS-C cameras in low light.
Coming from them and considering how many APSc models there are (many much more expensive as well), this is high praise.

In fac I just bought one to shoot in dark churches where my K20D's have issues at high ISO's

so she bought the camera online and then went to her local camera store and asked them to teach her how to use it... what a great way to support her local community

I guess this is where I've been going wrong all these years, I'll just get rid of all my fast lenses and use instead a standard kit lens, then I'll be able to get these great results too

Perhaps I could also be able to crank down the ISO to 100 at the same time.

don't lynch me

Would it be heretical to point out that Huffington Post might not have much influence on mainstream audiences? Will Pentoya notice any benefit from praise or endorsements by Mother Jones, Memepool, Pravda? Just wondering...

Huffington Post is the 38th most popular website in the U.S., and the 158th most visited site on the entire internet. By comparison, for example, rushlimbaugh.com is ranked 1,222nd in the U.S. and 5,245th in the world.

This is exactly why Pentax abandoned local shops

This is exactly why Pentax abandoned local shops.

Her example proves Pentax doesn't need a presence in local marketplace to make a sale.

I wonder if she would have picked a K-x if color choice wasn't available?
Would she have picked Nikon or Canon if they had painted color choices too?

The local shop I do biz with has a service they sell, for $50 they give one hour of instruction on the camera the internet customer just bought online.
