Pentax 10-16 mm wide angle ?

I read awhile ago that there maybe a Pentax 10-16 mm wide angle coming out for it's ASP-C digital SLR's.

This 10-16mm would be a extreme wide angle, not a fisheye, like the Pentax 10-17mm , which I have.

Has anyone heard / read anymore about the possibility of such a lens coming out ?

I wonder, if it does come out, what the price category it would be in, when it would come out...what F stop..ie; F 4, F 3.5, F 2.8, etc. ?

I think this rumour is purely based on the fact Tokina has the 11-16 for Nikon and Canon and people are hoping Pentax has access to it as well. Since it has not already been introduced I assume the 11-16 is pure Tokina technology and Pentax has no plans. Possibly Pentax has their own design in the making.

Just because Tokina has it doesn't mean Pentax will have it. Tokina does not only buy Pentax designs and optics, but they also have their own designs they engineered from the ground up. I'm guessing that if it hasn't been released already, it's purely a Tokina design and Pentax did not have any part to do with it. Your best luck would be a DA* 12-24 or a Sigma 10-20.

Sigma is also going to release a new 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 lens in many mounts incl. Pentax.

But the argument, if logical, isn't always applied: the tokina 16.5-135 is Pentax design, never released by Pentax (Ogl found it if my memory serves me well).

This is a stupid situation, completely illogical but very... Pentax

The Pentax 12-24 in Canada costs around $ 1299 Canadian dollars(I know...unbelievable)...great lens...but that price !!

I tried the Sigma 10-20 on my K10D...not a bad lens...at least the copy I tried, but I've heard / read on some threads, that some try a number or examples before they get a good one.

But I'm still thinking of a Sigma 10-20 mm F 4 version.

Maybe they made it but decided they don't want it =/ Plus they did discontinue the 18-250 anyways, maybe they don't want people using one set lenses?

Actually, on the Tokina 11-16mm page, they clearly state that they based its design on the 12-24mm, which is in fact a Pentax-designed lens formula.

Pentax and Tokina both are part of Hoya the same company, so it's not like they can't have access to it. It is simply lack of interest or resources from Pentax.

The 18-250 was a Tamron design, rebadged for Pentax. Since Tamron stopped producing it, Pentax can't have it anymore.

The confusion started due to Hoya and Tokina are distributed by the same companies is some countries/regions. They are two independent companies

When you say "it costs around", you should say it costs 1299$ maxi.
If you're in Western Canada, you can find it at CAD 1050$ at Broadway Camera.

I like my 10-24mm Tamron since there is a big difference between 10mm and 24mm. With the 8-16mm Sigma coming out for Pentax K mount I see no reason for a 10-16mm.
