My 5D Classics using CMOS work great for startrails

My 5D Classics using CMOS work great for startrails.

I shoot 2 minutes, 4 minutes, ect and image is taken and camera is IMMEDIATELY ready for next shot. No additional two or four minute waits for camera to process the image before I can shoot again.

I think "dark frame subtraction" is a Pentax thing, not a CMOS thing.

I noticed less purple fringing from same glass when Pentax went to CMOS Sensors. Though a couple k-mount lenses I own do real well on CCD 6mp too. I think it depends on how well designed the lens was to begin with.
You know, internal reflections kept at an absolute minimum.

I think the CMOS sensors are worse for astrophotography because you can't turn off the dark frame subtraction...at least not w/ Samsung's sensor...

Just sent in a request to Pentax...

They plan to do it, but in Japan only now...

Dear Ben, what do you think about price 645D? It seems to me ~ 10 000 euro for body in Europe.

That the price that Pentax Country Manager for France mentionned for 645D + 55mm. I would guess it's not very precise since it's not saying if VAT is included or price for pro support program (why not have it as an option ?)

Anyway, I'm curious if Ben can have a camera in hand now. And I'm even more curious of his impressions.

This was a very interesting interview. Thanks for the link.
Beautiful work on the guys website too. Would love to see what he could do with a 645D.

Digital sensor are very sensitive to IR not UV, on contrary of film, but apart from the orignal Leica M8, all cameras have a build in IR filter.

There's not point in UV filters in digital photography.
Thanks for the info

Yup. CCD is the best for Astro, and have little noise on base Iso. The K10 even has better DR than the Eos 5D, on Iso 100.

I predicted in one of these threads that Pentax would sell 10,000 of these in Japan by Sep 1. I don't make many of these kinds of predictions.

I'm not listening to any of your predictions until you put them into a cryptic poem, like Nostradamus, Blue.

I tried but I can't seem to work iambic pentameter in Japanese.

Edit: Then again, my lit prof said I can't do it in English either.

But Pentax said they will produce 500 units per month. But 10 000 units from may till September is 2000 units per month.
Of course there is possibility that there will be ordered 10 000 cameras till September, but then we will not see this camera in Europe and US, may be only next model

Don't you think that 645D is on conveyor from the beginning of 2010?

European dealers say (behind-the-scenes) - forecast for sale of 645D in Europe - September, 2010.

And limitations in production may not be from Pentax but from Kodack as the factories used even FF or APSC are end of life silicon lines (lower the investment)

Do you have a direct source for the 500/month because I haven't seen it. However, people will be pre-ordering this camera and it appears that many already have. Besides, I said they would sell that many, I didn't say anything about production keeping up. That is probably one of the biggest reasons they are starting sales in Japan only. That and they can tweak the firmware.

The 500 units per month is an official figure - from the Pentax Japan website (Japanese version). And btw, people are pre-ordering
