Canon has the R&D capability to make a small run RF body just to shut people up about m43. And it's not like they don't have experience with building rangefinders, albiet a while ago. If they were to bring in a M9 sized body, with a decent selection of L series glass for say...$2k with the 35mm/1.2 (can you imagine a 1.2 lens with a sensor that'll do ISO 102k, oh the possibilities)? That would absolutely drive a stake through Leica's heart.

Like 50 years ago on the interchangeable lens RF. I'm guessing that many of those engineers and designers have retired.

Where'd you get Pentax rangefinder from, the only mention I saw was:

"But poor Leica. First Pentax kicks all the wind out of its 'groundbreaking' S2."

Which is talking about the Pentax 645D.

One would imagine they'd have, I don't know, written stuff down, trained guys that are their or are accessible. And their mere existence gives a marketing hook, a la the Oly Pen.

Anyway, it doesn't exist, so the point is moot.

It seems Leica are coming out with a new digital rangefinder that's not in the M series. So while Jeff's rumour was a joke, there may still be something real coming soon.

I understand about the written stuff and all that. Bud don't under estimate the institutional knowledge of those designers and engineers. Its amazing what doesn't get written down. Plus, its amazing how the archives end up having things lost or misplaced. They could overcome some of that be reverse engineering their own stuff.

Still, it would have been nice. I see that guy has been blacklisted from most photo rumors websites now though.
