Pentax announced today it's official release dates for the DA* 16-50mm 2.8 and the 50-135mm 2.8 and here are the dates!

The DA* 50-135mm will be released world-wide on July 27th 2007

The DA* 16-50mm will be released world-wide on August 11th 2007

I hope you all enjoy this little tidbit and any other information will be announced prior to release, but I can assure these lenses to be much better than anything you would have imagined them being

Do you have an appropriate sacrifice prepared? I would suggest a 10D, or maybe a D70...

Looking forward to these lenses, although I expect a simlar situation as with the early K10D shortages last year... I probably won't be able to get one until October or something.

That is really frustrating. I ordered the 16-50 beginning of the year, when it was announced to be available around march/april.

Now it will be released exactly on the day I am leaving for holiday to South Africa, where I would have liked to use this lens...

Lets hope that was part of the reason for the delay, building up a good stock pile so they don't run into supply issues.

Or that they just sended to the importers so it can take a while to get in the stores ?

My guess is that Pentax Japan is sending the 16-50 lenses around the world on the 11th of August. So probably not in the shops before end of August.

If I understand correctly we are now living in the age of the New Testament and the second coming of the K1000 is imminent.
So, no sacrifice needed anymore.

They've been preselling the 16-50 @ 899 and 50-135 @ 999 iirc. Doubt the prices will change anytime before new years.

My order was placed in February at one of NYC's big camera stores. They stated today that they should have them within three days of release and they will be shipped immediately.

Take that for what it is worth... but that is what he told me.

Well, also, wasn't that Pentax last time in March told us that the delay reason for the DA* lenses was they need more time "to meet the huge demand"? Huh?

Finally, while the actual performance of the final production lenses are yet unknown, the big question is just whether the interest buyers can get one, which I think is unlikely without further waiting.
