Retail must be very frustrating that way, theory is fine, but the rubber doesn't hit the road till the customer carries the product to the counter.

it's got to be in the shop for me to do that
Retail can be frustrating though (Glad I'm finally out of it after 27 years of it)

I found Misere's GXR review to be very informative. He didn't seem to get on very well with the VF-2 add-on viewfinder.

One definite message to take home from it is to make sure that the firmware versions for both body and lens module is current (i.e., v.1.36 at the moment). It makes a big difference to the AF speed (compared to v.1.18). Ricoh has the latest firmware available for download.
Just read the review, a lot of what he did like about the camera sort of nails what i'm looking for in it. I aqree the sensor lens module needing replacement could be costly (though he did present some possible strategies including trade your old lensor in towards an upgraded which has some relevance). Truly though I am excited by the m module in reality i could likely live with the 2 a12 28 and 50 modules and have covered almost all my needs and certainly enough for what i want it for
the image results he got in varying situations were all well within what i consider acceptable and in most cases seem excellent (it would be nice to see the full size on them, but i'm not a pixel peeper per se)

I still want to see it come out up here. I think Generation 2 will quite likely end up marketed as Pentax to take advantage of the bigger marketing potential.
Just wish this was happening before my vacation this year, but i can wait for next year I certainly have enough cameras at my disposal

Well I have my GXR and 28mm. Very nicely laid menus and great feeling to the controls. Going to be a great camera.

A little example :-

R0010025 was originally .dng, as you see the second one is a very tiny part of the image.
Settings were F4, 1/870, +0.3EV, ISO 200.

Scene had some very bright lighted parts and others quite dark, which is as my eyes saw it and I wanted it captured that way.

I have modified hardly anything apart from a little contrast by a point or two.

So what do you say to this quick test, all comments welcome. Maybe I get out tomorrow for more photography.......

Also updated from V1.29 to 1.36 for both body and 28mm lens unit just now.

I have the 28 and 50mm
The optical quality is superb. Both have smooth, beautiful bokeh, very beautiful, Minolta-like colors and are sharp from wide open.

The only thing thats horrible is the 50mm AF. It i useless for anything that is not a black line on a white wall. It is slow and unreliable at times. When I wanted to snap a photo of my GF at a caf, it took 5 seconds to lock focus...it is not always that slow, but often enough to bother me a lot.

IF only MF was an option, but the fly-by-wire MF is even worse...

it was an experiment to replace my SLR gear with the GXR and it did not quite work for me.
if you mostly shoot stills or are a wide angle nut, you will be happy with it, and it becomes a system already.

50 + 28 + good flash covers a LOT of ground.

and the ergonomics are superb. It worked better for me than the D700. But I need good MF or at least reasonably fast AF

of course, and it is not always that bad, most of the time it is actually ok. But not more than that. contrast detect AF is slow...maybe with the new Oly it is ok...

Finally another member of the Ricoh GXR club! Exciting! Let us know what you think of it.
Me too.

Last week my K7 with FA43 frustrated me again with hunting (and failing) focus and a lot of PFs and other nice colors. I talked with a good friend about buying a K5. He told me that the purple fs and other problems grow with his change to K5.

Thought a night about the last years with the Pentax system.

Thought about that I only use anymore the DA21 and the FA43 in 99% of my shooting.

Sold the whole Pentax crap and ordered a used Ricoh GXR gang:

- GXR body with second original Ricoh battery and 3M screen protector
- 50mm A12
- 28mm A12
- VF-2 Viewfinder
- Polarizer and ND4 Filter in 40.5mm
- Ricoh flash

Second hand, one month old stuff for a total of 1.250 Euros.

My wife says Im totally crazy...

Rainer

Going all in sounds good...

On wednesday I pick the stuff up. Im looking forward to see the first pics.

What do you think about the viewfinder? Is it the same size as the older Pentax DSLRs like K100D??
