The Ricoh GR is here (first impressions)!

Pentax was kind enough to gift us a Ricoh GR, and it just arrived!

Its extremely light and the lens seems to be very sharp (I took some close-ups to test it out). The fact that it's so light makes it easy to hold steadily, which means that the lack of SR isn't such a big deal. The bokeh is also rather pleasing. Unfortunately, the weather isn't too great right now, so I won't be able to take it outside until tomorrow.

Indoors, the AF isn't brilliant. The camera's interface is much different than what most of you are used to, and even though I don't think it's that user-friendly, overall the camera is really fast (certainly much faster than Pentax's compacts), so I'm sure that it'll be a likable camera in the long run.

Stay tuned for our in-depth review in the coming weeks!

I think that 95% of GR interface and controls are the same as GXR.

Your point is? I think 95% of K-30 interface and controls are the same as the K-01.

Finally got a chance to take the GR outdoors. As far as the image quality goes, I'd say that it's like a pocketable K-5 IIs that's always set to 18mm.

The out-of-camera images appear very sharp thanks to the filterless design of the sensor, and the lens is superb given its small size. Nice bokeh, too! Here are some samples (the last photo is a 100% crop)

I'm not sure if the fixed 18mm lens is going to be a good fit for everyone, but for travel shots and photos of people, the GR seems like it would be an excellent choice. There's no need to carry around a DSLRs because this tiny camera is just as good

Too bad the raw files are only 12-bit, but IMO the GR's JPEGs are good enough that raw isn't necessary for everyday shots. Also, as I mentioned earlier, indoors, the AF isn't that great. I'll come up with a more comprehensive summary of pros and cons later on!

Adam: is that an illuminated ring around the on/off button or a hideous day glow green paint? Thanks for the comments. Look forward for the review.

It's an illuminated ring (looks quite nice in real life, not so much in my blurry cell phone shot )

Maybe pros and cons write down after final or first after release software update? We all know how AF can be emprooved by latest SW (k-01, Q...)

The green light/ring can be disabled in the menu setting
