I recently decided to give the GR II a try... kinda wish I would've picked it up a long time ago. Not only does it produce incredibly sharp images, it's simply fun to use. After years with the K5, I'm amazed at how many well-focused photos I'm getting with this little gem. I was able to grab a quick shot of the Guardian building in Detroit this afternoon -- just pulled out the GR II and snapped a quick photo of the beautiful ceiling. I really don't think this would have turned out as well with my K5.

Which makes me wonder... would I get similar focusing results with a current Pentax body (KP), or would I need to go to another system? After experiencing the joy of the GR II, I may need to replace the K5

Posted this to the Facebook group earlier today - figured I'd pop in here as well. The beauty, in part, of the GR is because of its size versus its extraordinary output, it gets used for much more mundane, everyday photos in addition to more "important" personal work that is display on groups like these or printed and/or hung. It's really an everywhere, jack-of-most-trades camera that stands-in for and destroys the output of any always-with-you-smartphone. And what's more is it is nearly-always with you because of it's ridiculous size, in spite of its performance.
And along those lines.... I give you a snapshot of homemade PICKLES I shared this morning in more personal circles.

Lots of great photos here. Does anyone know how I got this effect? At a wedding, a few adult beverages into it, when this fraternity gig happened. But how is there a small central radiating focus point? Interesting effect if I could figure out how I did it? I think snap was set at a closer distance and I probably just hit the button.

Hy Eagle94VT,

I think you just need to do a rotation with the camera while taking the shot.

Yes, rotating the camera with a slow shutter speed will give you that result. It's not too easy to keep the camera centred while doing the rotating, though, so you did well there

Here's a deliberate attempt I did a couple of years ago (K-3 and FA43, 0.3s). Didn't manage to get the sharper (less blurry) bit in the centre, though.

Indeed impressive. Not that the GR isn't up to it, but you have to go pretty close to get such results. Well done!
