Here's a shot that would have been easier to make with a flippy screen

I guess using wifi and the phone is a (slightly cumbersome) workaround. Maybe I should start carrying a pocket mirror for this kind of shots...

If Fuji is trying to compete against the Ricoh GR line, I would suggest Ricoh to deliver us a nice, smart, quick and good X100 style camera. With a 23mm f2 leaf shutter lens, flip screen and EVF in a small package.

My bank account says they shouldn't!

This "shooting star" is my picture of the day in the Daily in October Challenge. The GR comes to the rescue - again

Got a $500 quote to fix it and told to wait for the III. So I'm squeezing every ounce of juice out of the II before it dies.

Ray Vonn, is the problem exclusively located on the screen? If so, maybe you could try to buy another screen to replace the broken one by yourself. It doesn't seem to be that difficult. I don't know if spare screens are available, however.

$500 is definitely too much - you could buy a new one for that sum (or near enough). You're impressively good at squeezing juice, though Here's to hoping there's a pint or two yet to be gleaned from the old one.

Nah, not down here in Australia. Just going into a shop and buying a GR is not a straightforward process.

Maybe this is not the proper place to post this, but I have found some potentially interesting information here.

Good at squeezing indeed. Yeah, that was right around the same price I paid to have my lens assembly replace on my GRDIII. I just did it - I was in that hemi for about 2 years and, as you say, locating a replacement wasn't ever possible locally in any spot I was in, and pricing was far more down there, particularly in NZ where it was astronomical. And that was before the GR (aps-c) which really boosted its popularity and availability. I was living in Wellington for nearly a year and made due with a Canon S90 I bought in Queenstown for a price that still makes angry to this day. hahaha
But I paid for the GR repair in Sydney simply because I didn't want to be without it for another day and it was cheaper than replacement. The GRDIV was only marginally better and around $700 USD at the time (much more down there) and the announcement of the GR (aps-c) was still 2 years away at the time. Still don't regret repairing it. But mine wouldn't make images at all.... yours does, clearly. Sticking it out is the right choice.
