Optimized for *pancake-i-ness*, not IQ! Just like the DA21.

It's just not that well rated among critical Fuji-X users. I'd choose the 18-55mm zoom to cover the wide end in a heartbeat. Or better yet, the new 10-24mm. Or the upcoming f.2.8 [?] wide-mid zoom...
It may not be a favorite amongst the fuji crowd...however I don't know how you think it was optimized for "pancake-ness" when it is a full stop faster than the GR.
If one were to optimize a lens for size, you don't do it by increasing its aperture.

The FA 31 Limited was also designed to be (about 1 stop?) faster. It is noticeably out of proportion physically to the also "fast" FA 43mm and the "fast" FA 77mm and to a large segment of the norm in a long Pentax tradition. There was a reason for that. And I don't think the marketing department or a project manager had a lot to do with that directly, one way or another.

Fuji knows perfectly well how to make a better 18mm lens within their price structure.

I guess posting in this forum everyone is going to say, Get It!
Been rocking the GR since it's release and before that I had the GRDIII. The GR basically IS a K5iis with the sharpest 28mm you've ever (never) used. It's only in the last 6 months or so that it isn't *always* with me like it was before, and that's only because (as is true as I type this in a nearby cafe) I've been carrying my GR1s (the film original upon which the GR and its brethren are based) more and more, as I've been shooting about 90% film in the past year or more.

So, yes.... "get it". Especially at the prices currently offered. If I had it to do over again I would still pay the original full price. It's among my favorite cameras ever and will not be sold, possibly ever, as Ive intentionally left the 'upgrade race'.

Get it. And be at peace.

Honestly people, do you have to?

After a rainy weekend with to much time spend on the net, I stumbled upon the GR which I so far had been below my radar, read some reviews, saw some photos and now topped it of with this thread...

Well at least I won't do anything silly before Photokina!

Yeah, I'm pretty confident there's one in my future, but I'm in no hurry. In fact, I'll probably wait until Christmas or so.

Then you'll have to post some pictures, or we'll just say it didn't happen

Congrats
