If Ricoh were to bring out a monochrome version of the GR - it would undoubtedly cost more than the current GR (the sensor without the Bayer filter would be perhaps 2-5% of Pentax/Ricoh camera production - meaning higher costs). Even assuming the sensor is available without the Bayer filter isn't a definite prospect (if it isn't you're talking significantly higher costs). Removing the Bayer filter probably only reduces cost of the sensor when you get to volumes of a million or more.

For Leica it's easy, they just charge $1000 or so more for the camera (they have the market and cachet - 'Oh, you're still using one of those old fashioned colour cameras?'). Other manufactures could just increase the price of a $300 camera by a $100 to the same effect, either way a Monochrome GR is likely to cost more than the current version and therefore likely to have lower volumes (therefore higher prices & lower volumes...).

A monochrome GR makes a lot more sense than a green GR with a wooden grip, IMHO. It could see it being a minor success, maybe even attracting non-Ricoh followers looking for an affordable monochrome camera. That said, I wouldn't buy one, even though I love B&W photography. I still enjoy color, and anyway the current GR's files already convert to B&W quite nicely.

Now, an infrared GR, on the other hand....
