Honestly, I can't imagine how much sharper we want this GR to be. At f/5.6, to my eyes it is as sharp as my DFA 100 WR at f/5.6.
I want sharp lens at 24 MP at f2.8 from corner to corner. Not 5.6 at 16 MP.

I guess id put it this way. I don't think this upgrade is going to cause anyone who already has one to go get this one. I don't think it will really push new comers who felt the first one was missing a few components to now suddenly want it. I think if it had phase detect or better lowlight AF it would bring in way more people. Including me

I would be looking at this as a replacement for k-01 as a portable aps-c

16MP is good enough for a 20x30 print. If I think I'll need something bigger, I guess I should be seriously thinking of bringing my K3. (Or if I need something really bigger, then getting a 645.) The GR is a go anywhere camera, a snapshooter. 16MP is actually more than enough. Heck, back in 2004, we were all working with a 4MP camera!

Besides, a bigger sensor will require more power. As it is, many have already been complaining of its battery life. Additional resolution,=additional processing power which will require a bigger battery, then we would all be complaining again about its size!

Also, why would we require a tremendous amount of cropping with a 28mm? Surely, nobody's planning it to use for birding, no? :P

I guess you'll need to go somewhere else then.

Welcome to the future, remember when film cameras were on the market for 10 years well this is the digital version of that. At some point the market will realize cameras are for taking pictures and stop looking for the next best thing.
Brilliant! I have that thought all the time. Thanks for putting it so eloquently.

Does anybody know ... if the GRII has better dust sealing? The GR I bought at the end of 2013 got a lot of spots, and it didn't have the Pentax self-cleaning technology. Does it now?

Ogl, there's a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you...

Seriously, would you agree that no camera is perfect? Although, maybe you would get that perfect corner to corner sharpness with a Leica... but, for $10,000 or so, you could take a LOT of vacations with your GR, sharpening the images in Lightroom, and laughing all the way tonthe bank.

I think GR lens is good at f2.8 from corner to corner at 16 MP. And very good at f4. 24 MP has more demands for resolution.
In-camera GR 47 mm crop mode is a bit ridiculous. 5.7 MP.

I was ready to buy GRII before announcement and skipped GR. I had sold A12 28 GXR module and had been waiting for new GR more than 2 years.

Nothing is perfect, but they had 2 years to make better camera. Don't you think so?

But there is no other camera like this. I also think that 16MPix is more than enough. In the next generation I would be perfectly satisfied with AW and purely monochrome sensor.

I got an e-mail about a Sony RX 100 IV (almost, $1000, yikes) with 4k video...at least there's been one development today! Agreed on the sensor.
Could we see FF GR next year? What do you think about it? Is it real?
Such camera could be smaller with 28/2.8 lens than RX1R and Leica Q and cheaper.

An affordable (<$2000) FF compact would be a compelling offering in my opinion. If Ricoh could make it pocketable, it would be very successful niche IMO.

And then the DxO ONE appeared, and the GR II suddenly looks like something from the age of dinosaurs. That's not to say I don't see any possible shortcomings of the DxO ONE, but. . . It certainly is an eye-opener.
