I wonder if some of the changes will work their way back to the GR in a firmware update. But a cynic might say they'd want you to buy the new model.

I have the GR I and it is really awesome, like K-5 and FA Limiteds stayed in the bag on my last trip awesome. The GRII should only be an incremental upgrade mostly for connectivity plus some tweaks.

Other than wireless and some new movie capabilities, most of the new features are minor and unlikely to get checked by most review sites. Someone here on PF will probably do a deep-dive into the changes.

The first link is relevant. The 2nd and 3rd are referring to the old GR Digital II though.

(Ricoh picked confusing naming. They went from the GR Digital 1 through 4 which was easy to follow. They reset the naming scheme when they added the APS-C sensor, starting over with "GR" without a number, and not showing the word "Digital" on the front of the camera. The "GR Digital II" is old while the "GR II" is new.

Instead of the "GR" and "GR II", I would have preferred "GR Digital 5" and "GR Digital 6". It's a great camera regardless of the name.)

Hi all,
I just received the GRII, and I'm a little frustrated. I had the GR and loved it, was looking forward the GRII for wireless features. That said, that turned out to be fairly frustrating. I downloaded both Android and iOS apps, neither is a smooth app, I figured I will have to get used to them, but then to my surprise the remote shoot feature in the app is disabled, that said you can not use remote shoot with the app, I looked on some of the early previews and they mention a web browser capability, there's however no mention of it in the user manual, or online, I have no idea how to use the wireless feature in this new camera, and given that this is precisely the new feature that is being marketed, I find that lacking. Anyone any idea or help?
thanks

I will pass this on to Ricoh and ask if they have any answers.

Kenspo,
Thanks. I finally found out the section on the remote application. In my opinion the wireless solution that Ricoh uses is too convoluted and complicated. Since wifi is the only reason anyone would upgrade to the GRII from the GR, Wifi should be implemented in a flawless user friendly way. They need to update the apps so one can easily view and download images as well as shoot remotely. All other vendors who use a web server for remote shoot, have the web server embedded in the camera, so you can connect through wifi and then use the web server, the way Ricoh has it, you have to go online, get the app started, switch to the camera LAN and start using a fairly clunky app. I truly think they should revamp their app and wifi implantation from scratch, that can be easily done through a firmware upgrade. Thanks,

Here's a review in English finally. I think it's quite positive and balanced.

Nice review, however it's clear that the reviewer did not use the WiFi feature. And in my opinion that is the major deferentiating feature from the original GR. We already knew that the GR is a great camera, its just that it would have been nice if they tried the WiFi features and commented on those features.

I have a choice - GRII for 798€ or GR for 549€. If advantages of new GRII are only WiFi and NFC, does it make sense to pay extra 250Euros? In "old" (2013) Steve Huff review GR looks like absolutely sufficient as standby or main camera.
Possible sensor dust on GRII? Do not believe that they fixed it...
Faster CPU on GRII? Not confirmed...
Bigger buffer memory? Probably, yes.
New firmware only for GRII? Can't tell, while Ricoh Imaging server is down. Let's wait a bit for a decent comparative review.
