GR Or X70?

Getting a pocket camera. Looks like both has its own strength, while x70 is probably more favorable at this stage (unless there can be some good firmware update for GR soon).

Anybody by any chance already own both? thoughts or comments?

May I ask why GR needs a firmware update? a bug? or a feature only on fuji body that you want?
if later, buy the body which meet your need(not desire)
don't waste time to wait....
Just my 2 cents

I only own the GR, but based on specs the output on both will be so close that it should come down to interface. With this said, if the goal is getting "the shot" I can't imagine any pocket camera eclipsing the GR. What is the problem with the GR firmware?

at least following. everyone has different needs, just my own personal opinion:
better focus capability - on paper, x70 has much better focus. Some people might say GR is fast enough. That doesn't mean it does not need to be improved.
shutter speed - x70 has a very fast electric shutter speed
JPEG engine improvement - this is pretty subjective. Some people might say GR is already good enough. But it does not mean it cannot have more customized (or preset) options, to fit more people's needs.
better wireless connectivity

I wouldn't mind an improvement of the AF of the GR... Especially on low light. Even with the assistance light it is rather poor. It would be really nice to have.

The big difference is going to be ergonomics. Dedicated dials have a retro charm but what works better in practice? It's really up to you.

x70 doesn't look "pocketable" in my book. it looks nice (and expensive), but still too big for my pockets.

agree it is too expensive.

otherwise it seems winning a small edge in most aspects

My pocket is often big enough for it though

Agree most difference are minor, but there are big things more than ergonomics:
flip screen - big difference, some ppl might care, I don't use it anyway
better jpg engine - I don't like b&w, this is a big plus for me
better focusing - everyone needs it to be better
too expensive - this is the biggest caveat, otherwise I might have pulled the trigger already. Does not make any sense at this price tag, especically considering how much it only takes for a Coolpix A now.

Thanks for the input of ruoyun.huang & Zav
I wonder if the AF performance will be improve by using the sensor which has built-in PDAF
Maybe Ricoh sticks with individual AF sensor in GR line to maintain low cost.

I am pretty sure the AF of the camera preceding the GR (the GRDIV) was better thanks to an hybrid autofocus mechanism.
In my opinion, it makes no sense to go low cost on the GR line, they are expensive camera for an enthusiast market.

Is snap focus not enough?

Ya, that is also my 1st reaction when people talk about focus on GR.
I do use it a lot on GRD IV, but GR and GRii both have larger sensor resulting less depth of field.
This might make snap focus more difficult than previous models with 1/1.7" sensors.

Ok, I get it.

Personally I rarely go f/5.6, (usually locked into f/8 or higher) or below with my GR, and normally a 2M distance, so DOF is not a problem with snap focus.

IMO the half press AF + full press snap is about as good as it gets with regard to focus implementation. With this said, I would like to see improvement in pinpoint autofocus speed...as long as it remains as accurate as it currently is.
