GR mode dial and menu glitch

About 6 weeks ago I had an issue crop up with my GR. The menus and display started glitching: fading in and out, inputs not holding, and info boxes opening half-hidden off screen....battery at full charge. I quickly narrowed the issue down to the mode dial as it only occurred in the my1, my2, and (less frequently) in the my3 settings, and could be induced or made worse by jiggling the dial in those positions. I did some web searching and found nothing that was of help. I assumed it was a contact issue but did not want to send it in or take it apart myself. As a half measure (that now looks to be a full fix) I turned it upside down and tilted it so that the mode dial was the lowest point, and hit it with a cleaner developed specifically for circuit boards, plastics, and delicate electronic components. I pressed the trigger just far enough to foam the cleaner under the dial, as I did not want to force/fog a large amount into the body. I rolled the dial 360 a few times and left the camera upside down to dry.

The cleaner I used was WD-40 Specialist Electronic Contact Cleaner. It would be equivalent to Deoxit. This is NOT the WD-40 we all know and love! It is alcohol based NOT solvent based. It is a completely different product.

All issues stopped immediately and dial works perfectly now. It may be my perception, but it seems to work more smoothly than ever. I have no idea if anyone else has experienced this problem; but if you do and want to take the risk, this may be the fix.

Putting this in my back pocket for a rainy day.

No telling when I may need to do this to a camera or other digital device.

Interesting, I may have to give this a try on my K-5IIs with the stuck mode dial!

Good luck and hope it works as well for you as it did for me.
