RAW forever
How advanced do camera processors have to become before this is no longer true for you? Ask yourself what inherent, insurmountable differences there are between a camera's JPEG engine and a RAW processor? There aren't any; issues of power consumption and miniaturization have been bottlenecks in the past but this is increasingly no longer the case.

There is the aesthetics of the author, and there is the aesthetics of the programmer who made the in-camera-jpeg.

These are different universes, and it's not about power consumption.

But that's just another example of outdated assumptions about what the camera can offer. The GR III, for example, has so much fine control over what I'd call the "creative" image parameters that you can certainly make JPEGs which look nothing like the (now increasingly non-existent) "default" JPEG.

A jpeg incorporating a preset can always be modified further - not as much as a RAW file, but often only minor changes are required. I often do that.

From today (starting from the RAW file, though the paintwork looks like it could have come from the retro setting).

With my DSLR, I shoot exclusively in RAW and I can do some really nice things with those files in Photoshop. With my GR III I shoot RAW+jpeg but I have to say that the GR III b&w presets produce jpeg images that are beyond what my photoshop skills allow me to do with the RAW files.

Long shadows are great, especially in b&w I like the first one a lot.

And a few from me:

And now for some crunchy hi-contrast B&W.

Pre-pandemic of course (sigh).
