Ahhh yes. Looks like there is a field available in the meantime for "other".
I think I'll wait rather than having my request go into Ricoh limbo.

I'm in love with this lens. This was *not* using macro setting.

I find myself underestimating how close macro is, and then switching back to regular focusing to take closeups of regular objects like in your photo.

Same here. The macro function is much more like the older GRD series which is nice. The GR (and GRII subsequently) took me a long while to get used to enabling macro at much larger distances than I was used to and now I have to un-learn that again.

Hopefully this weekend will afford some GRIII shots of subject other than cats and coffee mugs... But until then.

Larger Res (but with added light JPG compression)

The reds come out pretty strongly on a dull day

Highlight-weighted metering works well for stage lights. Haven't tried it yet from closer distance

Nice pix. Will be interested to read how well the 20 X 30 " enlargement turns out. I have a GR ll and am pleased with the mighty mite's (my pet name for it) performance.

I wonder how long that particular U.S. Mail box has been situated there. I see it has a relatively new concrete base, but I'm betting that the box itself has been there ...or perhaps in another location for eons. Looks beyond vintage.
That is actually a storage box from the days when letter carriers walked their entire routes rather than driving a truck from block to block - from the 50’s and before through at least the late 90’s. The one in my neighborhood was removed - with the blue and red Mailbox - around 1996.

All the mail for an entire letter carrier’s route was stored in that box, presorted, and (he) returned to pick up more mail each time (his) leather shoulder bag was empty. I believe when there was much more First Class Mail the sorting was done overnight and the route mail was delivered to each box. I believe the letter carrier drove a personal vehicle to the neighborhood and distributed the mail from the box. These days I think the carriers sort their own mail and drive a Postal Service vehicle around a neighborhood, stopping to deliver several houses and driving a bit further. Those boxes aren’t in use much any more.
