Thanks. That's the GRIII's hard b&w mode for you. I shoot RAW+JPG and I really must have a go at reproducing the same result from the RAW file in Photoshop.

This little moth let my GRIII get to 6cm from it in macro mode and I got a handful of shots off. Heavily cropped but not too shabby for a little point and shoot

That's what I thought, the GRIII sometimes betters my own imagination for post-processing.

Ok, so I've just had a go at the RAW file in PS. I don't think its too bad but, and its a big but, I was using the GRIII's preset JPG as something to aim for.

Nice photo, and the high bw setting looks nice. I also find that the hard bw preset really works well when the scene suits it, and not easy to replicate from raw editing. This is an older photo with this setting, I may have posted before in the thread a couple years ago


But I've also seen (small) artifacts from the processing, so it's good to have raw as backup
