Ok, so I've just had a go at the RAW file in PS. I don't think its too bad but, and its a big but, I was using the GRIII's preset JPG as something to aim for.
You got smoother clouds in this version, the hard B&W mode does tend to make the skies heavily grainy which is too bad, but it is very good for a preset inside a camera, for sure.

The preset is certainly very good and a lot less effort than playing with the RAW file. I made a bit of a schoolboy error with the RAW boat above. In PS RAW convertor, I didn't apply the lens correction setting because I liked the vignetting. Then I decided to crop the right side of the shot so the left side looks too dark now.

On a similar subject, I've been shooting RAW and converting in PS for many years now. I load the image into Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) and more often than not I rely on the software's "Auto" button first then make fine tweaks until I'm happy. I then send the image to PS where I often crop the image, sharpen etc. I've recently realised that I should really crop the image as a first step in ACR before hitting that Auto button because its better for ACR to make its exposure corrections based on the bits of the image you are keeping rather than the bits you are throwing away. Every day is a school day

I noticed the vignette on one side, that explains it! Hahah. Looks cool, however.

The grass is always greener elsewhere but I know what you mean. I only have small towns near me and I am always envious of people who live in NY, Hong Kong, Shanghai etc for their fantastic street scenes, especially at night. I guess we all just have to get on with what we have got and make the best of it.

Thanks. I first shot that scene back in 2009 with a Canon EOS 400 and 10-22 lens @ 15mm (see below). On Tuesday I was walking past the same spot with my GRIII in my pocket so I wondered if I could re-create the shot. The GRIII lens isn't quite so wide but its IQ is better than the EOS 400
