Macro use on GR III

Yes, not an elegant solution. Thanks for pointing out step 0. I always have it on Select AF or Pinpoint but now I see your point if you are in the mode where you let the camera choose where to focus, then this does not really work.

Les indications données par NORMA et WTBGR sont pertinentes et effectivement, permettent de neutraliser la fonction macro sur la molette (^) lorsqu'on est en mode AF.
Par contre, le problème persite en mode SNAP où il est impossible de neutraliser le mode macro. C'est même pire, car une fois passé en mode macro ( appui par erreur sur la molette) , on ne peut en sortir qu'en allant dans le menu et mettre le mode macro sur "arrêt". Ce qui est fastidieux et une perte de temps considérable qui a de quoi exaspérer !!.
Encore une fois, je comprends pas du tout la logique du constructeur : pourquoi associer le mode "macro" au mode "SNAP" ? Le mode SNAP est fait pour la street photo où le mode MACRO n'a aucune utilité
pour ce type de photo.
Je souhaite vivement que le constructeur prennent en compte nos récriminations et modifient au plus vite le firmware de l'appareil.
Au départ, je trouvais que la faible autonomie de la batterie était le défaut n°1 mais non, ce mode MACRO est réellement le GROS point NOIR de cet appareil; On peut remédier au problème de batterie en s'équipant de 2 ou 3 bateries- alors que le mode MACRO, rien à faire sinon subir et d'énerver!!!!

happy to read that we share the same opinion.

I am also considering to glue a plastic cover to avoid to accidentally hit that button.

At the end of the day it is a tool, and I prefer to have a tool tailored around my need, rather then tailor my habits/thoughts around an object.

Votre idée est bonne mais, je pense, difficile à réaliser car on ne peut couvrir entièrement la molette ronde dont les 3 autres fonctions sont nécessaires.
Et faire un cache uniquement sur la partie supérieure me paraît difficile à concevoir. Coller du plastique est toujours difficile et je ne suis pas certain que

J'ai essayer de bricoler quelque chose qui semble efficace mais je ne suis pas certain que ça tienne longtemps.
Je souhaite que Pentax/Ricoh visionne nos images et se rendent compte de la nécessité de modifier le firmware.

Dommage que nous ne soyons pas assez nombreux à déplorer ce problème et à échanger sur ce forum.

J’ai amélioré la protection de la partie supérieure de la molette.
Après quelques jours d’utilisation, ce bidouillage s’avère très efficace
Et on oublie complètement la fonction Macro.
Seul petit inconvénient : on ne peut plus déplacer le zoom vers le haut de l’image.
En attendant que Ricoh prenne le problème au sérieux.

Just out of curiosity, have any of the folks here experiencing this "accidental macro" thing owned and used any previous GR camera versions?
I only ask because that has been the location of the macro function for the past 2 iterations as well. (Prior digital versions placed it in the "Down" position of the d-pad.)
While I've accidentally pressed it my share of times, it simply gets less and less as your fingers get familiar with the camera.

For small bodies such as GRiii it is better to travel with extra batteries, that is what I am doing with my RX100. I doubt Ricoh would significantly change GR design for that

J'utilise le RICOH GR III depuis sa sortie, il a 6 mois et je n'arrive toujours pas à m'habituer à ce bouton MACRO - Je le répète : le GRIII est un appareil de street photo et non prévu pour la MACRO, qui ne devrait être qu'un accessoire et donc, une option complètement débrayable dans le mmenu.

Voi une photo du cache protecteur de la partie haute de la molette.

In any case my point is all about the customization, why can you customize left and right, but not up and down?
I mean, macro can be a nice feature for newbie looking for flowers and cats, but frankly not for a camera that is promoted as the "Street army knife".
Do you want to have cats&flowers on the controls? fine, but give me the opportunity to change it with something else or even better "nothing".

Not sure what to tell you. I suppose a firmware update is possible if enough people complain, but TBH this is the first I've heard it mentioned.
I've been shooting it since release and I'm sure I've accidentally enabled macro before but not enough for it to be at all memorable.
Perhaps d-pad on your copy is somehow more sensitive than intended, possibly through defect of some sort.
