Hi all,

as per title, I've acquired a brand new GR IIIx and while doing some initial shooting tests I have noticed that while focusing the lens makes a squeaky sound, especially when the camera misses the focus and the lens extends to its max to then retract...it's loud enough that I can hear it while indoors, I wouldn't have noticed it outside.
Is this normal behavior from a new unit? I've tried to turn off the stabilization system but that doesn't affect the noise.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

That does sound a bit abnormal to me.
I do not have mine with me at the moment to compare it against, but there seems to be some sound beyond the focus motor.

I would not take a chance, the noise may get worse and you will always have a niggle about it being there so I would send it back for a replacement.

So I have just tried mine and I don't get that sort of noise, mine is very quick and barely audible. I think that I hear more from the shake reduction that the focus motor.
