When i said Pentax should rebuild old ones with new features like WR, i meant to build an image in the mind of customers.

Canon and Nikon have big guns, that you see in stadium for example.

Pentax is trying to build an image of outdoor brand (WR for DSLR and the WG- series for P&S).
Some of the old lenses could go this way.
Video of sports are famous, give us a FF and a 17-28mm FE and Pentax have something other don't have !

As for price of lenses. The more you sell, the lower the price will be. If the Canon 50/1.8 is that cheap is because it sells like hot cake !

Pentax need : brand recognition, to sell more body, then sell more lenses.

You aren't going to use f/1.4 very often on FF - which is why you'd use a f/1.8 or so, still stop it down.

The D800 sensor specs (including test performance) make the sensor look very much like an 'expanded' k-5/d7000 sensor. As such when you make DOF equivalent and shutter speed equivalent the signal:noise ratio will be equivalent. I know that isn't obvious but when you go through the math based on the real data that DxO provides us, it is equivalent.
Ho wait shutter speed equivalent surely you mean film speed equivalent.

If i shoot with 35mm f/1.4 on APS-C then shutterspeed of 1/50 will do perfectly for 50mm f/1.8 on FF you want 1/50 as well now comes the fun part the different aperture so K5 at ISO400 - D800 at ISO800 (dark room ) to compensate, i wonder if there is still any noticeable difference then in image quality, sure you got more pixels with the D800 so it will still probably do slightly better but for 3 times the price...
Also there is an age differnce between the two, K5 is end of life while the D800 is just launched

We have also been looking at lens prices the FF can compete with but for example the equivalent of these
Pentax DA* 200mm f/2.8 - $965
Nikkor 300mm f/4D - $1,370
cannon EF 300mm f/4.0L - $1,360

So is APS-C set really more expensive in total?

non existent and no news of ever coming one.

I think that sums it up.

28mm f1.8 vs FA31mm, 700 vs 1000
50mm f1.8 vs FA43mm, 250 vs 590
85mm f1.8 vs FA77mm, 500 vs 800

Total Nikon lenses price, 1450
Total Pentax lenses price, 2390

Thats a very very big difference. Granted the build of the FA limiteds areall metal and satisfying, but there is no denying the value of the Nikon lineup at the moment. And the plastic would be more resistant to knocks. What Pentax really have is in built SR over the Nikon equivalents. A D600 would make the above prices more equivalent vs Pentax up coming APS-C flagship.
SO you compare top of the line Pentax lenses to cheap Nikon lineup and moan because Pentax is more expensive?
The real problem is the absence of cheap bright Pentax lenses. Not the other way around...

Yeah this comparison has been beaten to death. They're designed with completely different ideas in mind. Yes, Nikon wins out for value over lenses.

But if you plump for the DA Limiteds, you can cover a similar range, albeit at smaller apertures, for a similar price at a third of the weight and probably less than a third of the size.

I don't believe this rumor because of two factors:

1. The price tag is wrong. I think both D600 and A99 are aiming at the USD1999 price point, so, USD2800 (which is the D800 price -- a much higher-specced camera) makes no sense.

2. In any "true" rumor, price is the very last thing which spreads. This is because price points are decided late in the process, somtimes only days before the official launch. Therefore, if the first rumor already contains a precise price tag, it is almost sure that it is fake.

Pentax might think they have a hostage-like situation where a great number of users are bound to the brand by having invested in many FF capable lenses and are willing to pay much more than customers starting from scratch.

But you should be fair: the Pentax lenses are limited series, for which "ordinary" FA lenses which were still very sharp existed. If pentax launches FF, as I'm sure they will now, let's see what they do with their lenses.
I actually think the only short sell is in the 85m range. BTW, you do not specify currency.

Is plastic more resistant to knocks? I had a 35mm glass/metal lens which once, with its KX camera, fell from 1 meter on cobblestones because I thought I had the camera on a strap (there was no strap). Nothing happened to it (the lens hood was broken though). Neither lens nor camera showed any damage.

In normal cases, the above is usually true. But this situation isn't exactly textbook. Pentax is (probably?) introducing their FF DSLR at a moment where there's a price revolution in FF world. They're forced to take that into consideration during the developement.

And who says we're not in that final phase where price rumouring is usually the case? Pentax FF rumours have been going on for ages.

Well as I stated, I wasn't going to wait for Pentax to get it's ass in gear.. I'm now enjoying my D800 and slowly growing my Nikon Glass collection.. But I do have an old K100 to use my Pentax lenses with still.. not sure when batteries will be put in it again though..

But to be fair, there are people that keep posting rumor threads of their imaginary FF Pentax here, then they go to other sites, like conspiracy theorists, then link their threads here and other places as if they are citations for a FF announcement. It's pretty shady, actually.

The price - could be just the check of public opinion of Pentaxian and reaction of users...
This price is lower than 5D Mark III. I think that FF from Pentax could be more featured than 5D Mark III.

it's a rice high rumour, not the most reliable of sources no matter how many sites reference it. I'm guessing if the Sony and Nikon launch at 1999 then so too will the Pentax, not a chance they will launch with the same sensor at 40% more than the competition
