Thatīs basically what Pentax "has been telling us"... But thereīs new hope when Ricoh is in charge.

I will wait until the next round of releases and then Iīll be going FF.
I have waited for 2 years waiting for Pentax to deliver. so basically I would rather get a D700 til Pentax makes up their mind and actually has a Full-Frame camera to sell. I don't want to waste more time hoping for nothing while years lost cannot certainly be replaced. I'm still going to shoot with Pentax with any of their good cameras, but when it comes to Fullframe, I hate to say but I have to shoot with a Nikon again.

I am hoping Canon puts the new 18MP FF sensor in a smaller body with 7D AF and build.

Emacs should blame the bad sensor with limited dynamic range. You shouldn't be looking for low contrast lenses to "compress" ( which in fact we can argue that but lets leave it like that for the sake ) . Contrast is a personal preference... just because digital sensor suck ass with high contrast lenses that doesn't mean you should be looking for low contrast lenses to equalize the DR of your scene( thus producing "more pleasing images" ). Sensors are known for their limited dynamic range and high contrast ( compared to our eyes ).
Distagon is low contrast? LOL
It manages to produce stunning results even if lighting isn't very good, unlike the 15Ltd, which is only good when the light is good.

But you are wrong. Both paper and monitor screen are unable to reproduce 14 stops DR. I don't remember exactly, but it's about 8 stops. So you need to compress it anyway.

Quite.

Most photographers I know simply wanted an FF digital back for their MX, LX, Contax or whatever without being taken to the cleaners financially. The switch to digital for many people involved additional expense in greater computing power and expensive software. It all adds up to megabucks if you take the posters here seriously. They seem in a frenzy to turn serious photography into a rich man's game.

For Sportsphotography!

Well I was at a soccergame yesterday evening, womens soccer, national league. They didn't played in the stadium (for the men) because the field had some trouble. So the lightcondition was terable compared to the stadium.

There where 4 photographers:
- Me with K-5's and DA*300 (at f4) and Sigma 70-200mm (at f3.5), working at iso6400 (about one stop more would be great).
- Someone with Canon 50D (I know he also has a 1D Mark IV but not with him) so he just took some pictures for when the play was dead (at iso 2500).
- Someone with a Nikon D700 and he left his 300mm/f4 in the bag and only used 200mm/f2.8 (wich is nog enough for the big field, he was with one of the clubs) and worked with iso 5000.
- Someone with Canon 1D Mark IV and she worked with 400mm/f2.8 and iso 10.000 (wich is a little bit overdone).

So I would like to have a camera that is better performing at hi-iso. If top-iso setting for a CCD-sensor would be 6400 that would be okay, but then it just has to be really good. Ideal better performing then K-5 up to iso 12.800 and I'm a happy man.

Just faster then K-5 (8 fps, bigger buffer and faster proceesing and storing to SDXC card) and more capable (hi-iso range performance, improved SR, way better and new AF-module, double cardslot) in either Full Frame or APS-H is good to go for me.

And I do prefer smaller and cheaper then Canon 1Dx, so I'm willing to give up some of the excellent futures of that camera. Not a miracle camera, but a very good capable camera.

Maybe also a DA*300mm/f2.8 (or 3.2 if that is smaller and cheaper) or a new designed DA*135-270mm/f2.8 lens to complement it. A DA*400mm/f4.5 would also be a very nice compact and handy lens to carry around a sportsfield.

Why buy a D700? It's old and due to be replaced very soon. A Pentax FF would be much more interesting and a bit smaller. Hopefully a lot more than 12MP too.

It exists. The pentax FF doesn't for now. I am hoping but not very optimistic.

I don't get it, been reading this thread now for a while. and why do you keep on comparing two lenses that have complete different FOV.
and also, why keep on bitching about it. If the lens doesn't work for your kind of photography, well then it doesn't. Just move on and get a life. As for many photograpers, the lens does work like magic.

Read Emacs' other posts in other topics. Photography isn't his hobby at all. Bitching is his hobby.

.

Taken couple days ago with a $2000 35mm f/1.2 wide-open on aps-c:

(Or maybe it was a $110 50 1.8 on FF )

(Here's f/8)

(A long, rambling thread needs images for flavor.)

And thank you for that. . I rather fell into the top left - they become somehow three-dimensional to me with that aperture, field of view, and depth of the subjects.

Update: This may be my first post in an FF thread. Probably the last guy around here who can say that

jsherman999,

The first two are fabulous shots! They somehow remind me of 6x7 MF photos - So three-dimensional you could almost step inside into the picture!
