Looks like it's time to close this for a day or two to give people a chance to relax.

DSLRs are dying.
Last I saw DSLR sales were still increasing. The growth is slowing but aggregate demand for this product is still high and increasing.

People think too slow. It's human thought inertia.

And you're not human... But a forumtroll?

Have you considered the option that you're just falling for everything marketing shoves down your throat?

You think too fast

It's easy to foresee a mirrorless future. But today, a K-5 has less shutter noise (despite the mirror!) than most mirrorless cameras and isn't really that much larger, so the advantages of switching from its OVF to sensor-heating, battery-munching and still not quite as good electronic viewfinders isn't very compelling.

Regardless of whether it's FF or just a K-5 successor, I hope the next Pentax has an even better optical viewfinder.

(But I agree that they also need to introduce serious (think NEX-7) mirrorless cameras as soon as possible)

Are you really serious? Have you even looked down that NEX-7 EVF yourself? Trust me, it's a terrible experience.

It lags, bleeds, has a lower resolution than even the flimsiest OVF, and the picture in the EVF doesn't look like the end-result or the thing that it's pointed at. Not to mention what happens when you get to higher framerates.

It feels like driving a car blindvolded, while someone in the backseat is shouting instructions.

I would like Pentax to move more into the field of serious photography, not gimmickery. Which would be - conform the topic - FF.

No, but I've looked through the GH2, and I trust those that say that the NEX-7 is better. Anyway, it's definitely better than having to always frame your shots with your arms stretched...

And while EVFs aren't optimal now, they will get closer to OVFs in the coming few years, and Pentax shouldn't bee too late to that party.

Closer to OVF, but never better or even just as good. It's impossible to have a higher resolution then the actual image itself. Why settle for second best?

Why have a luxurious FF camera (that's the topic) with everything we whish, but leave out a decent viewfinder?

The OVF is limited by the graininess of the matted glass. I wouldn't be surprised if it is surpassed by the EVF in a few years.

Agreed, and may I suggest that Emacs is entitled to his opinions and IMO isn't simply trolling. (plus, he's not a bad photographer. Trolls are always bad (or not) photographers. )

Of course his choice in Unix editors raises doubts about his judgement. I'm sure he'll work on that. (hint: 'vi')

Maybe they know what works, like the SLR format being decades old and extremely reliable and flexible?

Maybe smaller form factors are not the market draw many think. It never has been historically for full-featured cameras, so why is it different this time?

Maybe the OVF works well enough for most consumers and EVF's are a gimmick?

Darn humans. Always messing up the real data.
