They should just re-launch all their FA* lenses with quick-shift. That would make them perfect!

I'd buy a full frame Pentax DSLR today were such a thing to exist. I hope they listen.

I would love a full frame, mainly for two reasons:

1. Decent viewfinders.
2. Having wide angles again.

I could care less for megapickles.

I read the email reply. It says that Pentax Europe hopes that Ricoh will expand the Pentax product range. It's even weaker than I previously thought. Sorry FF hopefuls, there's nothing here for you.

I've had both a D700 and 5DII. Very nice, I enjoy the K-5 more.

Now if there were a full frame camera as good as the K-5, that would be something to get excited about...

I started with Pentax H-2 in the 1960's. Later worked for Honeywell and was Pentax Product Manager for several years in the 1970's. Kept shooting with a KX & MX after Honeywell and Pentax went their separate ways. Just retired from real estate a few years ago, to start a photo studio. Would love to have stayed with Pentax, but Canon had just started shipping the 5D FF. Now I have several "L" lenses (big $$$ investment). But I have several SMCT lenses that I use on the 5D & 5D2. Specifically, 85/1.8; 135/2.5 and the 17/4.0. Not sure if I could afford to switch back now, but would certainly consider doing so, especially if Pentax cameras were smaller and lighter than the Canons!

If PENTAX show the Full Frame, I'll sale my tamron 28-300, K-5, and DA*16-50 in 2500$ (I bought two month ago) and buy full frame and DA*55 and standard zoom lens^^

This could be a form letter for all the proof of listening it contains. It doesn't even mention full-frame, let alone suggest that it's a future direction. But that's not a problem for me. Since the K-5 joined my camera bag, my desire to upgrade to full-frame has simply evaporated. I don't want a heavier, bigger, clumsier camera with more resolution. The only remaining feature I'd love is a bigger optical viewfinder. But the AF is now good enough that that's a wish not a need.

FF is the way to go

Since the mid 1970s my Pentax cameras have been excellent values, well made, and always reliable. The company has never believed in mass marketing its fine products though, so it has sacrificed market share (it's miniscule), but no doubt the savings have been passed on to the consumer. When I think of Ricoh, I think of office copiers, not cameras. It remains to be seen how Ricoh will handle the Pentax brand. And what about the Samsung relationship? I thought there was something going on there. An FF camera, and well thought out social media marketing, would be a step in the right direction.

Yes they heard the masses... I did not know about Ricoh - I wonder what happened to them and their brand. Usually a company buys another to hopefully, acquire their market share. However with a relatively unknown like Ricoh, they could not replace Pentax with their brand name. So, that leaves, for me, a fair amount of uncertainty of the future. It really depends on who is the "owner", Ricoh or Hoya. Ricoh would have to forego their brand, because they can't afford to support two brand names. So, Pentax gives them market position where they had none.

If they don't screw it up, then they may survive. The additional complexity of integration and culture ( How do the Ricoh's give up their loyalty to that brand and accept the way PENTAX way forward. Usually that spells attrition. This I think was a very nice gesture by the customers, and it's information/loyalty that cannot be bought at any price. The responses seems genuine, outside the power of the writer to influence and is largely corporate speak. I as we all do hope for the best.

Regards,

Musicale

Bah, humbug. A full frame dSLR will be huge and cost a ton of money, no matter who makes it. Not for me, I'm afraid.

Somewhat ironic about Ricoh "taking over " Pentax - in the early 80s I was in the market for a SLR, and quickly decided I wanted a K-Mount. Looking at all the features, I eventually went with a Ricoh XR2s. It had everything I could get in a K-mount SLR at the time, far more than the then top-of-the-line Pentax ME Super (at the expense of added bulk, of course) AND was quite a few dollars cheaper. Nice build quality, too. Used it for years. Bought a Pentax 50/1.4 to go with it later. Only started buying Pentax bodies years later when cheap used MEs and ME Supers started becoming available.
