This new rumour is quite plausible: Sony Exmor HD 24 Mpixels sensor (same as Sony Alpha 99's and Nikon D600's), standard zoom to go along, dedicated grip, new flash, announcement during Photokina.

The only odd bit is the one about Sony's exclusivity on the sensor: the Nikon D600 is said to share the same 24 Mpixels sensor and photos of D600 are beginning to float around, see Ì©¹ú¹¤³§D600. May be Pentax did not want to pay the price requested by Sony to use this sensor from day one?

What makes me cautious is the (supposed) source of this rumour: the OP in the Xitek thread http://www.dchome.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1149840 says 朋友相機店舖職員 which means, if I am not mistaken "a friend of mine who works in a camera shop". Anyway...

DPR has a piece saying that Nikon have just announced a cheap-range FF 24-85mm VR zoom ($599) which would be odd unless they had a cheaper FF body in mind for it. In which case Pentax may well have to issue an FF body fairly soon to avoid behind left behind and/or see their high-end APS-C sales suffer.

If the D600 is a little bit bigger than K-5, pentax won't have much room to make it the smallest FF body. Unless they omit the top LCD- which i don't think they could do. I'm sceptical.

really though, pentax need to move fast or be left behind

i can't agree more. And Ricoh too i think. Maybe they knew that the day the bought Pentax.

Ricoh, can you tease us please ?

now that i have a full kit that cover 18mm to 200mm in FF (yes 18mm on FF) i'd love to use it on a FF DSLR

The D600 is expected to be about the same size as the D300, maybe a bit larger. I bet the Pentax will come in very close to that size as well.

I have long suspected that Nikon has a sweetheart deal with Sony on FF sensors. This rumor (and that's all it is) confirms.

I have FF glass covering 18-500mm. I want a FF body if only for the larger, brighter VF.

The real threat from Nikon appears to be they are delivering a $599 FF 24-85 "kit" lens as well:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/06/14/Nikon-Nikkor-24-85mm-F3-5-4-5-G

Now, 24mm as a starting lens system at a reasonable price is a real driver of competition. If Pentax can only offer a 28mm, they'll be behind before they even get started.

if pentax produce a FF camera the same size, but with shake reduction then they will have the most compact weather sealed pro level body on the market, and that will look very good on adverts

that is a hell of a starting Price point for a kit zoom. Nikon really seems to be firing on all cylinders this year.I think they must be fed up with being #2

from the looks of the leaked pictures it looks more like a D7000, and it has been rumoured to be a FF D7000 essentially
