It seems quite logical to Pentax to go your way about the lens line up. I hope so...

You want to be heard... come up with a list of 250,000 pre-order commitments ! Pentax only need one thing to make a FF camera, the assurance that it would be viable in the short and long term (lens development investment). That's all it would take... which isn't as easy as 1, 2,3 !

Question: Would a mirrorless Full Frame Camera work? Could Pentax pursue this?

Yes, it would work fine. It'd be the k-01 with a larger sensor... and hopefully a improved body.

No, it won't work. Advanced users wants an optical finder. That is why Nikon and Canon, who owns the FF market, make them as such. They know their core group.

To be honest I don't know why Pentax shouldn't make them both. A FF DSLR in a K-5 stylish body and that same sensor in a K-01 stylish body (maybe with EVF). Once you make a contract for purchasing that sensor the costs for that second mirrorless camera in production aren't that hi. What would sell? I guess the dslr would take 80 % of the sales and the mirrorless 20 %. Different markets, but not eating out of each others market.

That's a pretty fair assessment. If the mirrorless has the right design it may do even better than 20%. It would also be unique for the time being (the nex apparently has the potential for FF - ie Nex 9 - so it would be good to be first to market.

To make them different. A few options are possible. Turning the mirrorless into a very well capable moviecamera (wich is the K-01 not yet), next to a still-machine. Or making the dslr faster by giving it double PRIME M engines (the 645Dn could also use two of those baby's) and the mirrorless just the one that is also in K-01. As long as they serve different markets they make the Pentax brand stronger.

The more we talk about the possibility of a FF, the more I believe we will see one. My husband is not of the same belief, but I hope Pentax proves him wrong!

I think it should be easier to make a good high-end mirrorless than good low-end, because there would be proportionally more money to spend on the EVF. A good EVF is critical - it needs to be high-res, and yet without lag, so it needs a lot of CPU grunt. A high-end camera would also benefit from the absence of mirror-slap and alignment issues. However, a mirrorless full-frame camera would throw away one of the benefits of FF, which is the brighter optical viewfinder.

If Pentax made a digital K-1000, that would be very potent indeed. Full frame, affordable, and importantly, manual controls. While everyone else is making cameras for the average consumer, Pentax should make cameras for photographers, and most importantly, new photographers.

Photographers looking for their one camera and will have to live with it. Imagine the impact of that. Legacy lenses, classic appeal, full frame? That Pentax would not be compared to Nikon or Canon by Leica, and drawing that comparison is always a good thing.

My first Pentax was the MX - the K1000 came a little later and I thought it was a boring camera. The Lada Niva of the Pentax lineup - functional but crude.
