Where would the sensor for such a Pentax FF camera come from anyway?
Let's say, Sony, Sony or ... huh...Sony.

Don't forget about Sony, and there's also the sensor that was used in the Nikon D800.

I actually think Toshiba is in the same ballpark now.

Toshiba seems good indeed but I dunno if they wanna/can compete in midian/long term with Sony and doing so if they'd go to the FF market.
That would bring some competition...

Sony makes 24 and 36MP FF sensors.

yes

Competition is good. It brings down prices and results in better product.

Yeah, and the Pentax full frame page (https://www.facebook.com/pentaxfullframe) has apparently given up on the concept. The last update was on the 31st of March 2013.

Pentax uses SR with the sensor, if they leave out the SR it might fit on the current board even... but that's not the biggest problem it are the lenses.
FF lenses are bigger and heavier so not the thing you might want on APS-C beside that what are the reasons these days to get an FF camera?
For video Pentax can not compete against magic lantern sadly... also the K mount is not use professionally on video camera's.
All the more reason to give Pentax glass users a reason to stay with Pentax.

I bought a Pentax body (K-r) because I can use my legacy manual focus K-mount lenses. That was the overriding reason for the purpose; otherwise, I would have gone with a Canon EOS body (because I have film EOS lenses that are compatible with digital EOS bodies). I have twice as many PK/A lenses as EOS lenses, but if I have to go with Canon when the time comes that I can afford a FF, it will most likely be a Canon 6D.

Is there any chance of Ricoh becoming a sensor manufacturer, and producing their own (aka Canon)?

It's always possible.

I don't know of any 'chip' expertise at Ricoh though. It seems unlikely to me but if they think they can provide more value to the customers by bringing chip manufacturing in-house, I hope they do so.

A 55x41.5 mm sensor would be a nice start.

Possible but very low chance.
They have no experience in this and have no (AFAIK) proper fab so no.
What they could do would be la Nikon, collaboration for customized Sony sensor and/or production of sensor being a team effort between RI/Sony.
That's more probable.

Sorry to be a bit negative, but I am not persuaded of the case for a FF. I'd been a film Pentax user since about 1980, and for a number of years after digital came in I thought I would go digital on my SLR when Pentax brought out a FF. In fact I yielded to first a K7 and now a K5, and I can no longer see the case for a FF. The major companies (Canon and Nikon) slog it out for dominance at FF, and I struggle to see the benefit to Pentax in a FF. The K5 has a major selling point by being compact. A large sensor no longer seems to be essential for a very high quality image; just look at what the digital compacts are now delivering. There is an advantage for those who want to go extreme wide angle, but how many DSLR bodies will that sell? I fear development of FF could be the death knell for the Pentax brand.
The Pentax 645Z seems to me to eliminate the need for Pentax to develop a FF. The marginal gain between APS and FF is not worth it. Pentax 645Z seems a shrewd move by Ricoh.
