Compared to an MX yep it was, and that was his comparison. the mx and the Oly OM series were tiny perfect cameras in their day (The Oly was actually better with of the film metering which came later with the LX, still the best metering cameras to this day for long exposures

Sure it was. That's its strength.

Exactly!
Those who want a 45.46mm register distance. Virtually everything else on a Pentax is available from another manufacturer, with better service, availability and wanrranty.

While it is nice for Pentax to have features that set their products apart from the competition, there's more to a marketable and utilitarian product than that. Good build and value for money speak volumes. I'd rather a quality product that is built for longevity than an extended warranty (e.g. *ist D/K100D that just keeps on and on after a few knocks and 100,000 clicks; unfortunate corollary: DA* 16-50).

What are the odds that when they finally introduce a Full-Frame Camera they will also introduce a new Mount for it so they can sell New "Pro" Lenses?

The Q had it's own lens mount. They did later make the 01 though.

I'd also like to see a faster Sync Speed than 1/180th but meh, I can tolerate it.

I know other people have other priorities... for me the AF is way more critical than the sync speed.

Ya, I don't often shoot a lot of things where having a more accurate or faster AF have been a concern as of yet but I understand the need for it. Especially in Action or Low Light Photography.

I have had times where it would fail me while shooting Football Games or Track Meets but I do neither of those at a professional level atm. I shoot them just so my close family can have pics.

I'm sure a decent/new AF System will be incorporated into the next gen of Pentax DSLRs 11 AF Points alone is pretty small considering where everyone else is right now. The K-01 however has an 81 Point AF System as well as a sensor the same size as the K-5 with a 1.5x Crop. Though I don't know how the K-01 handles High ISO. I know the K-5 handles it pretty well. I'm sure that's also an important thing to a lot of people. Especially those shooting Sports or Concerts.

Zero.
They would be able to sell new "Pro" lenses also if they're K-mount. Probably many more, than if starting from scratch with a new mount (yes, yes, and "adapters"...)

Yah, but this is CDAF, completely different, essentially software.
PDAF means a great deal of hardware under the pirror and hence, space.

The K1000 was crude, but that's what I love about it, right? Coming from a 14 year old growing up completely digital, I found the K1000 not only a welcome relief from AF, digital filters, and the camera taking the shot, not the photographer, but also the perfect base to hone one's skills. I now have a digital camera, but still use MF, and no 'scene modes' at all. The K1000 was crude, but that was it's best thing about it. To see pentax build another manual camera, with no AF and 'scene modes', just a good sensor and a wide range of ISO/Shutter speed? I'd buy it straight away.

If a Nikon D600 at $1500 to $1700 doesn't do it, I don't know what will. Who will by a K-3 or whatever the K-5 replacement at a $1400 or $1500 price for the flagship aps-c.

More Nikon D600 specs | Nikon Rumors

QuoteQuote:
  • 39 AF points (with an option of 11 AF points)
  • 5 fps (same as the D700, the D800 has 4fps)
  • 2 SD card slots with Eye-fi support
  • Build-in retouching images functionality
  • Built-in flash with sync speed of 1/250s
  • Two user settings: U1 and U2
  • Fn button

  • GPS
  • HD video
  • The sensor inside the D600 will probably be 24MP (made by Sony, modified by Nikon)
  • The new camera will be marketed as an entry level full frame camera
  • Auto DX crop mode
  • In-camera RAW editor
  • Built in time-lapse functionality
  • Possibly with build-in HDR
  • Possibly with integrated GPS
  • New external battery grip
  • To be released this summer
  • The D600 will probably not have an internal AF motor, which means it will work only with AF-S lenses (just like the D3200 and D5100)
  • The price of the D600 is rumored to be very low - maybe as low as $1500
  • Announcement before Photokina (September 2012)
  • One or more low-priced f/4 lenses will be announced with the D600. For example, Nikon recently filed a patent for a 24-70mm f/3.5-4.5 full frame lens which seems to be designed for a cheaper FX DSLR body

I don't see Pentax leaving out a $25 focus motor due to the FA ltd series, FA 35, FA 50 and D FA 100 WR. Plus I would expect to see some signature Pentax things from the K-5 etc like dual wheels, possibly WR and SR. Some have argued that the above Nikon is stripped down but heck.
