This. Please never look at the bare numbers when comparing camera sizes. It's all about relative sizes, not absolute numbers.
Put a grip on that K-5 and they're about the same size.... interesting.

And don't forget the D800 is pictured without a grip...

Yes, I realize that but you could probably get away with no grip on that whereas the K-5 is too small without a grip. I have 2 K-5's and the one with the grip is definitely more the go.

I wouldn't mind a K5+grip sized Pentax FF DSLR at all.

The K-5 is not too small without a grip. So many users want smaller and lighter cameras. You won't find a smaller and more capable camera than the K-5 at the moment. I have gone travelling with it sans grip and although I do like the grip I also like how light and compact the K-5 is in the bag and slung around my neck. A K-5 sized FF camera would not only be a first in the digital era, but it would make a lot of enthusiasts and pros consider it strongly even if just for the weight factor. The 645D is testament to this.

agreed. I have a grip for my K7, and only use it when out with a heavy 2.8 zoom or when shooting an even. most of the time i prefer the smaller lighter walkabout with a prime attached
K7/5 sized FF would have a pretty large market out of the gate (it would need to be a bit bigger to accommodate the larger 100% OVF, I'll suffer for that

Pentax must be nuts not to try a FF in a K5 body. The comparison here clearly shows it would walk out the door. What fools they were to halt production on the FA series and design DA lenses.. they really should have not thrown away all that hard work to start over like that. They only need about 4 FF lenses to get the ball rolling anyway... why not give it a go?
Because they got badly burnt with MZ-D. And they thought that it would be better to to APS right than a bad FF.
You may remember that for a long time, Pentax was the only brand with the right APS lens line up. Because others didn't mind to male lenses for APS? Canon, they almost always had FF but Nikon? They were jokes.

Now it's quite easy to complain though. Very easy.

Pentax might be dead if they chose to keep their FA line up.

Yes, as I've been saying for two years now

It would have to be a little bigger than the K-5 to house the VF, and a little heavier, but it certainly does not have to be D800 size.

And as Fuji taught us, a sexy camera in-hand does crazy things in the market.

I'd like to know if Ricoh is handing over the GXR to Pentax for a rework so as to become a Pentax camera. That camera could turn out to be the basis for a modular FF Pro system - in my mind anyway. If I have it right then all they need to get the ball rolling is a FF K-mount module. Surely that's not too hard?

PS: They still make FF lenses so what's the problem?

31LTD
77LTD
43LTD
FA50 F/1.4.
That's enough to start with.

Why not call it an LXD or a Pentax LX LTD?
I believe you are very close on all points. We'll know by this time next year.

Also have the D-FA's. Wouldn't be hard to restart the FA35/2, either. Also have the A50/1.2 line in Vietnam.

Shouldn't be too challenging unless the tooling has been destroyed. Same for the FA35/2.
