I decide that best way is to migrate to Canon.
If I add an FF to my lineup, I would keep my K-5 with lenses like DA15/DA21 or DA*60-250 as this combo is without peer at Canon or Nikon. So, no need to adapt those lenses.

I hope Pentax does see it ...

Discussion went from "Pentax, pls bring FF" to "how to combine Pentax with FF".

Let me say it like this:

Life is too short to skip the D800. And life is too short to drop the K-5.

I'd really prefer the Nikon, myself. The dials/TAv (auto-iso in Nikon land) are set up closer to Pentax-style. Unfortunately the mount isn't nearly as compatible, so it is a tradeoff.

If I was to change systems within the DSLR world Nikon would be my choice as well. I went Pentax because i had been shooting Pentax film at the time, but I've also shot with Nikon, Canon and Olympus at various points. If Olympus had OMD that was FF I would be all over it, but m4/3 holds no appeal (where is that MX-D or LX-D GRRR)

The K5 does that as well... (even though I think it only has two levels of intensity)
I only ever notice that I can't read the LEDs in bright sunlight (I wear glasses) I'll check that out though. Thanks for reminding me.

EDIT: I just checked that out and the K-5 seem to be a continuous adjustment whereas the Nikon only seemed to do 3 levels or so of fixed changes. Is there any menu item for changing the absolute level of the VF LED's?

If I were to consider jumping ship for lets say a d800 or FF canon, what would be the reasoning to keep my k5 and run dual platforms? are the fa ltd's that much better than the top glass that nikon offers? i know its cheaper but......you pay for what you get.
not trolling.....but sincerely curious.
I'm in such position. Preparing to get FF Nikon. However I plan to keep one K-5 and 31 + 77mm limiteds. Also I'm going to get 15mm limited. Not sure if I will keep 43mm limited, currently it is getting very little use.

Why? Because of such kit quality, compactness and weight. I don't like going out for a walk in a park or travel like a pro on assignment (i.e. FF DSLR + 24-70mm + 70-200mm), I prefer it compact and light.

my biggest concern when going with another brand is how i'll disperse my day on the forums. this place eats up too much available time as it is. i don't know how i'd handle this and POTN.

Is it reasonable to assume that since pentax and nikon share sensor tech - that pentax might have access to the full frame chip in the d800? Is there some other deal between nikon and sony that might prevent pentax from accessing that sensor?

Rumors have it that Nikon got an exclusivity deal on the D800 sensor. I.e., there is a grace period before other vendors may use the sensor, Sony included. Let's see when Sony launches the A99.

Before going for a Nikon I would wait to see what Pentax will announce next. It might not be full-frame, but it might still have comparable capabilities and good equivalent lenses. Switching between brands/systems seems a hassle to me, and expensive. It would really suck to be forced into it.

That looks very close to what I would love to have for a lens line up as well, I must say, I was unaware of HOW expensive the 24-70 was.. At the same rate, it's a top grade lens, much like grabbing a FA*28-70 when it was fairly new.. Something I can't afford when I first get the D800.

It is really sad to see Pentax always playing catch-up nowadays..... gone are the days of 70's and 80's when it was the leader!

D800 will make many Pentaxians jump to Nikon.

Wouldn't a K-mount FF already be something the other makers lack? Not to mention a K-mount FF with in-body SR and fully WR.

No..you are not. I rarely use flash in my photography. I have all 3 recent bodies (Kx, Kr and K5) and time and again...Kr comes out superior in a combination of reduced noise and sensitivity in high ISO situation. Kx is better at sensitivity but has higher noise in darker backgrounds .

I wish I had a Kr full frame too..

Consider just getting a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 - you will be amazed at how that lens performs on a D700/D800. You can pick one up used for around $300.
