Prepare yourself! Because in the autumn we'll certainly see ... a new crop of rumors of a FF release somewhere in the future.
The fact is that there has been rumors about a Pentax FF constantly since 2001.

Looks like the rumors have converged to a FF Photokina announcement. Considering there's been 4+ seperate mentions of this spanning months, I'm banking on it being probable. Good times ahead, now let's hope they follow Asahiflex's idea of an LX-D with an interchangeable viewfinder.
The interchangeable finder idea makes more sense now in the digital age than ever before. You can deliver the basic camera without a finder like K-01. Mirror always up. Then you can have options of an electronic finder and various optical finders thereby suiting all....
This could also justify a higher price.

Besides build quality; the interchangeable finder option was one of the best items about the Pentax LX.

Found on the MFlenses.com forum, posted today in a board not accessible to visitors:

"I stopped by one of the two best camera shops in SF today and while there asked if they had any news about a Pentax FF DSLR. Their owner, earlier this year at a tech show, had talked to a Pentax rep who said Pentax would unveil an FF DSLR in September at the camera show in Germany. Then it ought to be available for purchase around Q4 -- hopefully in time for it to be my Christmas gift to myself.

So that's exciting. No word on the potential pricepoint, but the Pentax rep apparently confirmed it will compete with the 5D, D800, and Sony's FF."

I won't comment because it's just hearsay, but do I want one: hell yes!
I spoke with the local rep of the Australian distributor for Pentax only two days ago and was told there would be no FF... they also now distribute Ricoh here and he also told me that there would be no GXR FF K-mount module. I don't expect these guys really know facts though and the only time we'll ever really know is whenever it really happens.

I'm working on having a glass portfolio ready for full frame if it ever comes. Meanwhile they work great on APS-C.
Why don't we just wait and see?

Well I'm ready for that to. With FA31mm, DA*55mm, FA*85mm I can cover the short end to portrait when having an aps-c and a ff camera in my bag.

Pentax has to make a nice FF K-1 and a DA*135mm/f2.0 to make my set complete. On the long end I would like a DA*135-270mm/f2.8 with a DA*1.4x TC.

I'd say you have a very nice 'portfolio' right now wouldn't you? ;-)

The DA*55 and the DFA100WR macro are still in the mail, but once they arrive, yes, I will be pretty much sorted for the time being

For that list to come true in a hurry you're gonna have to sit on Santa's knee and promise to be very very good... more good(er) than you've ever been good before. (Yes I know that isn't a word)

Nikon D600 rumor

So I guess that the rumor of an upcoming entry level Full Frame camera from Nikon, called D600 would call doom over Pentax for some. But I guess that that is the sensor that Pentax can use as well for our first Full frame camera. Coming just in time to buy or pre-order at PhotoKina.

I'm with you on that one Ron, would make a lot of folks think more than twice about swapping back to Pentax.

I've still got a fair swag of FF glass in in my bag just waiting for a FF. All in the wider end of the gamit, but I'll always keep the APS-C for the longer end.

Would love to be using my Sigma 8mm circular fisheye for single shots instead of having to take two pics at 90deg to each other and stitch so as to get the full circular images.

One day our dream may, I say may come

By the time something solid is announced people would have jumped ship. Im looking at moving to nikon full frame in the next few months, so the sooner a Pentax FF is announced the better else it will be too late.

If that rumor is true and the price is good, then Nikon will kill the "high end" APS-C DSLR market that the K-5 plays in. This is the pincer movement spoken about for a while now; cheap FX from above and m4/3s from below, eating APS-C DSLR's lunch.

What that means for the K-5 replacement is obvious to me, it will be DOA if it's APS-C and priced at $1,599 like the K-5 was.
