If I were to consider jumping ship for lets say a d800 or FF canon, what would be the reasoning to keep my k5 and run dual platforms? are the fa ltd's that much better than the top glass that nikon offers? i know its cheaper but......you pay for what you get.
not trolling.....but sincerely curious.

Look at how these lenses perform on APS-C sensors. Now double the size of the sensors and spread the AF points out for a FF VF. You will have really sharp centers and very poor edges.

Can you link in some pictures of some of these lenses used on and EF mount?

have a look here:

???? Pentax FA 31 LE & Canon EOS 5D-???

???? Pentax FA 43/1.9 Limited-???

I just saw that there is a second hand Canon 5D body for sale for 600€.. very tempting when the prices have gone down so much.

You'd want to keep your K-5 because it is so much smaller than a D800 or 5D. The big two's top glass is also top big and heavy. That's an important point for many K-5 owners. A Canon or Nikon does the job, but you'd want to take the K-5 with you when size and weight matters. You'd be surprised how many pro's are out there with a 2nd system which is much smaller, just for that purpose...

So, Winder, do you still think that Pentax FF glass is unusable on digital FF? bad corners and all?

FYI I have used a lot of Pentax FF glass on my former 5D and I never had any problems with the corners. Not even with my K-mount RMC Tokina 17mm f/3.5!

A lot of bullshit is floating around on "ze interwebz"

The first thing I noticed was the LED's in the VF changing brightness according to the strength of light coming into the camera.
The K5 does that as well... (even though I think it only has two levels of intensity)

so can you mount pentax glass to any FF camera..... and what would you need to do that? this is an area i am not familiar with. i would certainly love to go FF with Nikon and still be able to use the limited's on both platforms. i'd assume using 2 different sensor sizes would be even better since the lens would then have 2 different focal lengths depending on the body i was using, correct? one limited prime lens with 2 depths of field.

you can mount to Canon because the registration for EF lenses is shorter than k mount so they can be adapted. Nikon is another kettle of fish so to speak

I think Canon have more easy way than Nikon to mount Pentax lens. Everything can I find for Nikon is converters that have some glass or make lens infinity focusing impossible. I decide that best way is to migrate to Canon.

It's actually quite sad that the fact that Pentax has FF glass but no FF body, is driving devout Pentaxians - who are obviously loving their FF glass - to the competition, so they can finally use their Pentax FF glass on an FF body.

I run dual systems, not for any logical reason beyond: "I really love the M 85 f2, DA 15ltd, DA 35ltd, and DA 77ltd".

If Pentax introduced a FF body, I would add the FA 43ltd, DA 200 2.8, and maybe a few others over time.

If you crave for FF, got FF pentax glass, and do not want to spend a fortune the canon 5dMkII is a good choice (even better i a couple of months when the succesor will be launched and the mkII will go further down in the price scale). If i were invested in the pentax system i wouldn't ditch it! it's a great outdoors, hiking, compact, rugged system.
I'm buying a d800 unless the 5d2 succesor is a lot better...a lot better, since the rumors say it won't house the new 1dX AF system and the d800 has the impressive AF module from the D4. I probably would keep the k5 if i had it (i'm gonna give away my pentax setup to a friend who ditched photography because she was tight on resources).

that's the route i would most likely go.... canon 5dm ii

i'd rather go with nikon for the af system but if the lenses aren't compatible and i'd keep both systems it would make little sense.

I can't say my logic is any better. I own several Pentax lenses I really like (15, 31, 43, 77, 100WR, DA*300) and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping that at some point there is a FF Pentax to mount them on. At the same time, all of those lenses perform very well on my K-5 and make for a pretty compact kit (DA*300 aside). I also like keeping the K-5 around to pair with the 18-135WR to give a WR setup that covers a pretty wide focal length range.
