Large 4/3th is also an option.
Flagship camera wouldn't have a smaller sensor than the flagship APS-C, would it?

A square sensor would be nice!! i've always loved the format in the hassys, 6x6 produces a very different feel a square 35mm would be noted...but i'm not sure if there would be a market open to it.

Just one rumour site, and pretty lose statements, not sure if that's smoke or just talk...we'll have to wait. And then someone said something very interesting about the square sensor...that it wouldn't be FF yet...And with all those lenses geared towards aps-c i'm sure someone who hasn't forgotten all his basic geometry can tell us if it can be larger (the square over the rectangle), use those lenses, and how much more it can be.
And the Kz might just be the replacement to the Kr, with lots of colors...andddddd nothing more (maybe some features).

After Dxo sensor performance of the d800 released a couple of hours ago pentax would have to get killer performance for a better price to snatch some FF buyers...the d800 is an impressive beast indeed. Unless they do something feasable and different they are in an uphill position in relation to the FF issue.

Well Aristophenes it looks like perhaps you may be proven wrong come Photokina when it comes to a camera above apsc
In 2011 I said to Aristophanes that he owes us an apology when Pentax announces a FF DSLR at 2012 Photokina. He agreed to that and I won't forget that

After all this "good cheer" stuff I hope I'm not chagrined (ducks). If Sony really shifts 100% to SLT we'll see what happens - did Sony hear footsteps?

The surest way to kill K-5 sales and future sales in the near term would be to have pre-release information about an FF model. So I take these combined rumours with a huge grain of salt. It would be incredibly irresponsible of Pentax corporate to stall revenues of current products to hype future ones.

I would not be surprised to see upgraded K-5(n) and K-r(z) soon, and at PK a proof-of-concept display, but no release date or projections beyond a vague "late 2013". Same as the 645D. I would not say that is an "announcement". That's my call.

I also would not be surprised to see an upgraded K-01 with a swivel LCD at PK. The design practically screams for one and mirrorless is all about rapid development and upgrade cycles right now.

Square sensor FF idea

I would like to see a square FF sensor that could switch between horizontal and vertical shots without turning the camera. I don't mean take square photos and crop them later. I mean have it square to cover both a horizontal or vertical shot and with the press of a button you could switch between the two.

On a completely different tangent, DxO published their report on the D800 specs and it doesn't show as much of an improvement over the K-5 in terms of dynamic range as I would have hoped:
