According to my friends whose work place bought both the D4 and the D800, the D4 is supposed to be much better at higher ISO than the 800. At least the person who chose the 800 told me that but he also said that he still thinks that over 400 is something he does not do normally having a very strong film background. There is more than fps that is different between the two.

Perhaps Pentax should have the high ISO of the D4, the resolution of the D800, the price of the D600 and the size of the K5 (and the lens selection of the 1DMark a whole bunch of Roman numerals)

40mp was just fine on my lowly i7 so i would not fear 36mp on todays computers. (on one that costs under 1k too)

DxO says differently, when looking at the images at the same MP the Sony sensor in the D800 performs better.

Only reason I'm more hopeful re: this rumour vs all other previous rumors is the mention of Sony. If Sony announces a refresh of their FF line, then I think that's a good bet that a Pentax FF is also due out soon. Hmmm.. Might be a good time to hunt for an FA* 24

When it comes to developing bodies, most camera makers are not unlike IBM-compatible computer vendors. They need to get the right components for their intended market, package them, and get the new product to market in a timely manner. So if Nikon and Sony are about to release cheap FF bodies, you can bet that Pentax will be right there too.

LOL... when Pentax don't have a FF, people say they would leave Pentax.
When there is a FF rumor, people want it to be certain way else they won't buy it.
Pentaxians are really hard to please !!

I personally will certainly consider buying it, this or the K5 replacement. I become more and more comfortable carrying two cameras on outing....I carry K200 + DA*16-50, and K5+FA85 and some time feel the iso limitation on the K200 (though the colors on the k200 is more 'pentax' like), I wish to carry a K5 and its replacement/ a FF in the future.

My comfortable price point for a Pentax FF is $2000-$2500.

I'd be OK with a price between $2300-2800. I have a couple of Voigtlaenders I bought on clearance from Adorama that I'd love to try on 24x36mm.

Throw in a couple of Samyang primes and the FA Limited trio - I'll be set. Don't need anything more than that!

As a point of clarification, I'm expecting a mag-alloy chassis, weather sealing and a large exceedingly bright optical viewfinder for that price range.

And I'd like my ideal wife to always make me a huge breakfast, mow the lawn for me, give me random back rubs, bring me a beer before I even thinking about it....

New Flagships coming around the horn!

I am confident Pentax's choice of sensor will be based on image quality rather than pixel count. There must be a reason that Nikon and Canon's flagships are both under 20 Mp.
At this moment, they are. Look for that to change.

Eagerly waiting for the full comparative review of a rumored Nikon FF DSLR and a hoped for Pentax FF DSLR.

Uh-oh, that's rabbit in the headlights. If they don't do both, even if the new K5x is taken down a notch, they will be stuffed, imho. At the mo there is just the K-30 to carry the whole brand. I'm sure it will be a good camera but it's hardly a flagship to keep folks happy and staying with Pentax till sometime next year.
unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if ricoh is putting all effort on full frame

Well that would be a pitty, but on the other hand, presenting it on PhotoKina with a fast market introduction would also be good. Maybe we have to get used to a new two year rotation with our camera's instead of the 17 months that was before.
since pentax is renewing the "old" k-x0" series, I believe it is pretty fair to see a successor every two years. I definitely don't want pentax to follow canikon footstep to release a new model every year...

way too expensive if they use the 24Mp sensor. Pentax will always be cheaper than the rest. Even if they use the 36Mp sensor.

bare in mind, the price is MSRP price... usually it drops quite a bit afterward... compare to current standard, it is usually only cheaper for 100-200 as well.. so approximately 10%

Those who don't think that 24 mp is enough should keep in mind that there certainly is a "645d2" in the works as well.
