Thanks crop mode means the ability to use 16Mp shots on the D800, which solves your problem. I don't see Sony making a 24Mp sensor, when they have already an APS-C 24Mp sensor, and have made a 36Mp sensor for the D800. Why would they make a fullframe sensor that is the same as their 3year old A900 24Mp sensor again and not have a competitive edge over Canon?... That is very unlike Sony from a marketing perspective. I believe their next fullframe will be 36Mp and so will any potential sensor that Pentax get from them.
And if not the size/weight with my 500mm lens means I will likely stay with crop K-5 successor, where as a 36Mp camera which I could use in crop mode is far better for me personally. The D600 is using an Aptina 24Mp sensor and not a Sony 24Mp sensor, which makes far more sense for a budget entry level fullframe, and not a flagship model.
