The height of the image created is only 21mm whereas FF supposed to be a little less then 24mm.

So, i won't be happy too fast.

Oooh, a 70-200mm f2.8 would compliment my 16-50mm f2.8 and 50-135mm f2.8. :3

A Pentax weather resistant 70-200 2.8 sounds delicious...

The pricetag surely won't be. Pentax has gone crazy with its lens pricing.

I'm not sure I follow the logic. This patent was filed two years ago and the image circle this lens projects wouldn't fill a 35mm frame. It is odd though that it's in a focal length commonly associated with a classic tele zoom.

The slightly smaller image circle gives credence to my idea that Pentax may release a ~1.1 or 1.2 crop ratio K-mount camera, in order to make sure in-camera SR works will all legacy FF lenses. It's not like they haven't done something like this before (645D).

I know... if it is going to be priced high, it had better really kick Tamron's butt (as the Tamron can be had new for around $750). I can't imagine the Pentax version being cheap, all you have to do is look at the price of the DA* 16-50 2.8 and 50-135 2.8....

I can't read Japanese, but are you sure the filing date isn't March 10, 2011? That would still be interesting, since it's pre-Ricoh. And it wouldn't have contradicted any of Hoya's claims that it wasn't working on FF, since it's a bit cropped.

21mm Image height would make it perfect for an 28.7x19mm APS-H sensor with IBIS.

The patent for the 12-24mm F/4 replacement was also filed in 2010. We should see it this spring.

Given the price of the DA* 60-250/4, you are correct.

Image circle needed for 24*36 = sqrt (12*12 + 18 * 18) = 21,633 mm precisely
The patent is for a lens with an image circle of 21,64 mm so it fits;
I can't read Japanese but I don't see a patent for a lens giving image dimensions by its width and its height. It is the image circle that is specified here
