Soon the world will have three full frame's (two of them being interchangeable lens') that all cost below 2k. Not a bad price at all concerning how much companies like Pentax demand for their lens' - even the rebranded ones.
Thats the bodies though right? Bodies have pretty much always been cheaper than matching glass IMO. Just look at Nikon's 24-70mm f2.8, its approx £1250-1500. Lots of cash for a standard lens.

Pentax glass is now overpriced, both compared to a few years ago and to the competition as well. What does a Pentaxian have to pay for an ancient 31mm 1.8? And what do you pay at the other brands for a lens with an equivalent focal length, but faster, with its own dedicated optical stabilisation and its own dedicated fast & silent motor? So, it's not only the fact that lenses are cheaper at the other brands, you get a lot more for the money as wel.

A few years ago the very same Pentax lenses were cheaper then the competition, because those lenses didn't need their own stabilisation and motor. That was one of the major advantages of going with Pentax. But the current prices don't really justify getting a lens that goes "WHHHEHEHHEEEEHEH!!!!" anymore.

Well, the Canon and Nikon 35mm f/1.4 are ~100 (Canon) and ~300 (Nikon) euro more expensive than the 31mm f/1.8 Limited. Neither the Canon nor the Nikon is stabilized.
The Canon is quite old, being launched in 1998 (which means it's older than the "ancient" Limited). What was the "fact"?

Well, Nikon has a "WR SDM" (to use Pentax speak) 28mm/1.8 that costs (at least over here) just half of the FA31. OTOH I doubt that it's in the same "legend" league optically.

Is it weather resistant? I found no such information... (well, neither is the Pentax)

The Nikon has WR as well? Talk about bang for the buck! And that 28 isn't the only one. Don't forget about the third party lens manufacturers.

I doubt you'll see the difference in IQ either. Maybe on test charts... Oh wait... LOL!

On the Italian Pentax forum pentaxiani.it the first thing we say to people coming for information is to go to Nikon or Canon that is way better, and we do for that exact reason, but still prices of used Pentax lenses are ramping up...

Because you're doing it wrong; first, they should buy Pentax and only then, jump to Canon/Nikon, thus adding their gear to the used lenses/cameras pool.

Unless they go to Canon, or Sony, or any other brand with a shorter registry distance. In which case you can still use the Pentax lenses.

Well, I haven't been able to afford the FA31 yet, but there are people using other systems buying Pentax bodies just to be able to use it... Photozone gave the FA31 4,5 stars for both optical and mechanical quality, while the 28/1.8G got 3-3.5 and 4, respectively.

Until I've seen really comparable images, I'll assume that the rendering and bokeh of the FA31 beats the 28/1.8G - for a steep price. But that's the law of diminishing returns...

No argument on the pentax glass being overpriced. I'd rather have the loud (in only some lenses) AF than the wretchedly loud Nikon shutter.

I am not sure if screwdrive is a bad thing. It makes the lens less likely to fail and that's a good thing IMHO. Despite the lack of complains about Nikon or canon in lens motor, I would take the security of screwdrive any day.

i have checked both lenses side by side on k5 body.... there wasen't big difference: fa had noticable more purple fringing and it was sharper at the corners resolving more details... fa's are the only reason i am still waiting for Pentax FF...
