Pentax FF Mirrorless Rumor

QuoteQuote:
It doesn’t happen often that I get Pentax rumors. But this one is very exciting and at the same time…anonymous. That’s why you should take it with a grain of salt. But I hope this rumor can be read by other (known) sources so that they can confirm or deny it. Here it is:
The new source told us that “Pentax’s new fullframe “might” be a mirrorless, using a newly developed hybrid mount that accepts current K-mount lenses and adds the ability to use newer short flange lenses as well.
Editor’s note: The Pentax FF camera almost became a “myth” in these years. So many time we heard that it would come and…it never came
The (impossible?) Pentax FF mirrorless camera rumor! | Mirrorless Rumors

Pentax has a lot to do with CDAF technology if they are going to pull this off.

If they can get an FF mirrorless into a body smaller than a Fuji X-Pro they'd get some serious attention. Not sure how Pentax can transition from the optical VF given its huge legacy glass. EVF's are simply not there, especially at any FF price point.

Oh well, just another rumour on a Monday.

Or they can use an image sensor with embedded phase detection sensors.

Cheers,

Cheers,
They could, but you can't make the PDAF sensors very big or it degrades image quality. The new cameras that have PDAF are fast enough in good light, but in low light they still hunt and don't compare to the PDAF systems currently used in DSLRs. The PDAF sensor arrays used in DSLRs are many, many times larger than what can be used on the imaging sensor.

But tests of this technology so far have not been very positive. Its an interesting concept, though.

Moved to the FF section.

FWIW, this was brought up in an interview last year and the bottom line was that someone at Pentax had this idea, but that it was probably not going to evolve much beyond the concept stage.

Sure is. PF has forums for every type of Pentax camera that exists and one that doesn't. Exist, that is. But boy, if that doesn't confirm the speculation!

The only question is "During the run of which Doctor will the FF appear?" I'm betting on the Twelfth. I'm not sure whether that says something about my view of Pentax and FF or of the lasting power of Matt Smith.

Adam's going to have to create another full frame forum in the Mirrorless section and move these threads there.

Are we going to have a separate forum for Full Frame Rumors too?

We could have on for rumors that are backed by solid internet speculation and a second one for rumors that are total fantasy or come from Rice High.

Maybe we could start a rumor about a separate full frame forum, which is just for full frame rumors, and we could fill that forum with rumors of further subdivisions of the forum, which are in turn filled with more forum related rumors, and so on and so on, and we could stop talking about cameras altogether!! (LOL)

I think John Barth already did it. Lost in the Funhouse. Something about the Nine Circles of Hell, I think.

We need a forum to discuss future Pentax watches and the latest rumors in Pentax time pieces......

Will there ever be a Pentax Lens coffee cup???? Does Pentax even make a lens big enough for a good coffee cup?

Well, you know this is just more BS as the thing starts out as:

"Pentax's new FF"

That right there is a dead giveaway that this is just more FF crap.

Pentax Full-Frame: Rumors Confirmed!

It can now be confirmed that rumors about a full-frame Pentax camera definitely exist.
