Selling my FA*s...

so I've finally decided.

IF Pentax brings out a pro-level APS-C camera, I'm going all in with APS-C and will be selling off my FA* lenses to get smaller, lighter (and weatherproof) stuff. If they bring out a full-frame...well....it's going to be difficult. I've got a feeling it will be APS-C.

And it really is a shame that the Pentax Marketing Department isn't up to the level of proficiency of their engineering department, because this K5 camera is absolutely magnificent. And incredible work of art...well done, Pentax.

Now if they could just SELL some...

Cheers,
Cameron

BTW: I sold one...one of my bass students bought a K5 outfit from Adorama at my suggestion...I think he's on here somewhere...

Dibs on your FA*24!! I feel your frustration though Cambo. I sometimes go on to Flickr and review film scanned and Canon FF adapted shots with the FA Ltd's.....someday....someday.....

I think you can replace them all with DA* with great results except for the 24mm... 36mm f/2 equivalent is something I would use a lot...

I'd love to get my hands on an FA* 24 f/2, but my wallet says no.

mine has a GREAT lens hood, though, much better than the one on the 28-70. You can mount /dismount it anywhere in the circumference; on the 28-70, there is only one mount point, so you have to rotate the hood to find it. Minor beef. Is that what you're talking about?

Love your posts, and your photography, Ron.

Cheers,
Cameron

Selling FA*'s is a shame... i would keep them if i was Pentax enthusiast... everyone keeps saying: Tools, you are the photog, its your eyes, you you you you...

But for me... 20% of the hobby is gear obsession, and for me Pentax is such a brand. I went for the FA Ltd's and realised that "this is pentax for me". Didnt care of FF vs APS-C then...

But then i switched brand.. :P

But now, sad to say... taking pictures is the only interest, i have no emotional attachment to my Nikon gear...

I feel the same. I didn't switch brands exactly, but I did buy into Nikon, and now have a D800, which is a great camera, but I just can't love it. I'm not getting rid of my Pentax stuff any time soon. The Limited lenses have rekindled my gear obsession nicely. Oh, and they render colours beautifully!

Well, could be a sensible thing to do. I don't really mind the APS-C format or the crop factor, but if the money were *there* to choose either format, I think a fulll-frame outfit with just the right glass for me would be lighter or about the same weight to lug around (I still always keep film body on me,) and cost about the same. ('Being able to live happily without an FA 31' would make up for probably over a grand at this point. Right now my poor gal's substitute is a Sigma 28/1.8 which I do like, and is full frame for mah film, but is somewhat too outsized. Since I don't actually do a lot of truly wide-angle work, it's usually sufficient to just put a basic little/cheap 24 or 28 in there for just-in-cases as I did with full-frame film. ) And the bigger viewfinder would be a big asset.

But of itself, there's nothing tragic for me about the crop format. The performance of like a K-5 or K-30 appears quite sufficient for my needs. No idea when I'll even have the money to spend.

Well, considering my FA*24 and FA*80-200 aren't going anywhere if I've got anything to do with it, and I haven't bought a lens in about nine months, I'll probably be ready to buy when you're ready to sell. So, if the next flagship Pentax APS-C body comes out in September, I should be able to celebrate holding LBA at bay for twelve months with a discrete purchase or two. I think I might be in a queue for your 85, though. Still, there's always your 28-70...

I sold all my Pentax gear except an IR converted *ist.
I had
- FA 10-17 (fisheye)
- DA 12-24
- DA*16-50
- FA 43 Ltd
- FA 77 Ltd
- DA* 50-135
- DA* 200 F2.8
- FA* 300mm F2.8

Now I have Canon 1Dx and 5D3 with
15mm fisheye
16-35 F2.8
24-70 F2.8
35mm F1.4
50mm F1.4
85mm F1.2
135mm F2
70-200mm F2.8
200mm F1.8

Out of ALL those lenses there are only 2 that I am absolutely in love with. The Pentax 43mm Ltd and the Canon 200mm F1.8. Both lenses ALWAYS exceeded my expectations and they are a pure joy to use. Pentax would need professional level support in addition to some fancier bodies for me to come back... But I will always miss certain aspects of my Ltd lenses

I hear you, I want a Pentax APS-C upgrade so bad with some newer WR lenses. I would LOVE to have the FA Limiteds updated to be WR. Don't change the aperture, don't change the focal length, and please please dont' change the size. leave them screw drive and put some seals in there. I'll be incredibly happy.
