If 1/4000th is good enough for the D600 and 6D, it's good enough for any Pentax FF. Maybe it will even let Pentax use the same [Copal?] shutter as those cameras, saving them time and money.

FWIW, in looking at the last 10,000 shots of mine with my K-5, not one used 1/8000.

1. True Full Frame 36x24, 16-24mp sensor (to allow for faster buffer/image transfer)
2. High RAW color depth and Dynamic range of 14.4 EV or better
3. Fabled automatic "crop" for DA Lenses (1.4 crop factor to produce a 25x18, 18Mpx RAW file)
4. Two versions of sensor, one with and one without the anti-aliasing filter (like the K5ii and K5iis)
5. Dual SD card slots capable of using SDHC, SDXC and up to UHS card
6. HUGE, Fast and intelligent buffer. (With a huge and fast internal and INTELEGENT buffer, this rig could take large amounts of successive shots without slowing down or skipping a beat. Imagine firing 25 or 30 shots, lifting your finger off the shutter and instantly being able to shoot more shots, waiting for the buffer clear depending solely on the speed of the card).
7. High frames per second, at least 8 FPS
8. Of course a strong magnesium (or aluminum) frame/chassis.
9. Fully weather and dust sealed (even tighter than the K5ii)
10. Still have Sensor Shift shake reduction. (level, composition adjust ect)
11. Built in GPS (with automatic location Metadata tagging).
12. Built in WiFi with accompanying IOS, Androd, Windows Phone, Blackberry 10 app for live view, exposure, AF, control. Also allows jpgs to be sent to phone for quick sharing. Allow wireless tethering with PC/MAC and Lightroom 5 out of the box. Even better, allow it to be controlled through any web browser capable of HTML5
13: 1/8000 shutter speed. no slower
14: 1/250 flash sync speed (at minimum)
15: AF points that cover the full frame, not just the APS-C crop
16: 40+ selectable AF points
17: native iso from 50-128,000
18: HD Video modes with aperture/shutter control while recording.
19: support for power zoom lenses (and develop new power zoom lenses) for use with video modes
20: uncompressed HDMI out
21: USB3
22: Uses same battery as K5
23: AA batteries with optional battery grip
24: internal viewfinder shutter instead of viewfinder cap
25: additional programmable function button gripside of the lens
26: interchangeable viewfinder system ala the LX
27: NO FLIPPPY SCREEN
28: built in panorama mode
29: non-crippled mount that can sense aperture on non-CPU lenses
30: 1 million dot or better 3" LCD screen
31: ability to select RAW low/medium/high. lower the resolution for faster frame rate, buffer speed, storage
32: redesigned radio based flash system using bluetooth. Uses bluetooth to link up with Pentax Bluetooth flashguns. No line of sight, no misread flashes, no preflashes, fully controllable through the camera menu system. Still has backwards compatibility for wireless triggering of legacy flashguns. Tech would probably limit use of either the bluetooth or legacy system, not both at the same time. If not Bluetooth, some other RF system.
33: More than 30 minutes recording time in video mode
34: ability to record a still image while recording video, without interrupting the video
35: self timer for video start (ie: press video record, wait 5 seconds, video recording starts)
36: internal LED based flash system that can also work as continuous lighting
37: 24-70 F2,8, 70-200 f2.8, 10mm f3.5, 24 f1.8/2.8, 35mm f1.8, 43mm f2, 50mm f1.2/1.4/1.8/2.8 Macro, 77mm f1.8, 85mm f1.4/f1.8, 100 f2,8 macro, 135mm f2, 24-70 f3.5, 70-200 f4, 200 f3.5, 300 f4, 24-100 f4.5, 70-400 f6 lens lineup at launch, all weather sealed.
38: strap lug points mounted opposite the grip side (think LX) on top/bottom of camera, as well as grip side top plate.

I admit... I started dreaming pretty high here.... its kind of a combination of LX, K5, D4, D800, 5DMKIII

no it's not. Shooting wide open in sunlight, with a max iso of 100... you need faster than 1/4000th. 1/6000 would be the slowest I could live with.

I live in a very bright part of the world (El Niņo permitting) and also have some f1.4 lenses. I am curious about how fast people routinely go. Have you examined your EXIF history in Lightroom (or similar)?

I'm not saying 1/8000 isn't a good thing but, for arguments sake, if it was part of the price to pay for getting an affordable 'entry-level FF' (an oxymoron) out of Pentax I think it would be a compromise many would be very willing to accept.

I use 1/8000 sec on my Sony NEX-VG900 with F1.4 lenses wide open @100 iso on sunny days. The 645D does not need 1/8000 since it does not have any F1.4 lenses with F2.8 as it's fastest lenses. My VG900 has up to 1/10,000 sec in video mode and I have used it.
Take an ND2 filter.

I would agree. Reviewing my photos for the last three years show 1/2000 is my fastest. Also, if it is like the D600 with the extended ISO modes, ISO 50 would probably get the job done if needed.

ND filter is your friend. Consumers have to choose between $3,250 FF cameras an $2,000 cameras. Or a $49.99 ND filter for the 0.05% of shots you'd need it for.

Good point.

Probably some exposure compensation would do the trick too.

I don't know if it has been listed yet.. didn't read whole thread.. interchangeable screens.. I really like split focus screens for manual focusing.

I do like the original laundry list.
I would very much like to see the top of the line Pentax to include a multi angle rear screen. It comes in mighty handy when trying to photograph anywherer except eye level. A lot of us loyal Pentaxians are in our 60's and not as limber as we used to be. If the competition can do it, so can Pentax.
I fully expect to pay between 2 and 3 thousand dollars for this super camera.

I think a serious camera needs to be either a movie camera or a still camera and not a compromise between the two.

We can all dream right?

I wanted to start a thread where we could list and share some ideas and "hopes" as to what Pentax could and should put in to their future flagship Full Frame DSLR. I would like to keep this kinda realistic, so nothing so obscure that it's not even logical or relevant, like "wireless charging". Wireless charging is cool for a phone that only sips battery power, but not for a large DSLR. Also, try and "quote" the previous post's ideas and then add yours. This way we can hopefully avoid duplicates. This thread should be fun and interesting.

Here are a few of the "basic" ones. If they hit this or something close, they will have a very competitive product:

1. True Full Frame 36x24, 24.3Mpix sensor (same or similar as D600)
Imagine firing 25 or 30 shots, lifting your finger off the shutter and instantly being able to shoot more shots, NO WRITE WAITING).
7. High frames per second, at least 6 FPS. (The large buffer would help with this)
12. Built in WiFi? (kinda torn on this one, but still think it's good for wireless tethering possibilities and WiFi location tagging)

Here are some more "crazy" ideas.

1. I would like to see Pentax embrace their past. Include all the exposure data for all K-mount and M42 lenses within the camera to be called out on demand. For example, You put on an old m42 135mm 2.8 super takumar and "select" it wit in the internal database, set the Aperture ring, select the same aperture on the body and BOOM, the body start giving you exposure information for ISO and Shutter (even auto Exposure in Av mode!). Imagine how much easier all those old lenses would be to use. (Exposure wise.)
2. Focus peaking during movie mode and Live view
3. Better Movie mode option (Or any would be a start. How about H.264 like the rest of the world)

What else would you like to see?
Im not so sold on that high Mp rating, I recon 16.2, or 18 are the sweet spot, I would be hoping for low light performance heading the way of the D4, (something between a D4 and a D800 is where I see the Pentax FF) - I think that if the photographer is serios then a $2500-$3200 body is not unreasonable, what I hope we dont get is something that is entry level, our lenses are not entry level, and our hopes arent either.

I think a high quality image, conventional camera, is the answer. I love my K-5II (i love the customised green button, the TAv mode, the raw fx button, that awesome DR and the specific workflow with this camera) and im very sorry i have to use sometimes my...canon (shh). Lets face it... K-5IIs has a better IQ than any canon made ever so just a larger sensor is more than enough for anything (and dual slot pleeese ). I dont know how many times i use those 39 cross type af points, but i used a lot the -3ev sensors from k-5ii. What we need is a larger sensonsor, in a k-5 like body and real pro zoom lenses. A K5ii with larger sensor and 12-24, 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 could make Pentax brand the unbeatable choise for any professional.

And 1/8000 for...what? If i need 1/8000 i probably use a 1.4 lens wide open, for a facebokeh portrait...and i use a variable ND filter because 1/8000 is still too low. I can live with a 1/1000 camera...

I use 1/8000 sometimes, even increase my ISO on sunny days sometimes so I can get there with the aperture I want. The first shot is 1/8000th.

To give you an idea, this next one is 1/4000th of a second, and you can tell it would be impossible to completely freeze the bee's wings at this speed like I did at 1/8000th.

If I'm going full frame, I want to be able to do pretty much everything I can with my K5-II

Well since lenses are named, I still love my idea for a new lens for Pentax and make then something special:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/146855-pentax-...autofocus.html

This DA*135-270mm/f2.8 would be one great lens to use for various options. No 70-200mm lens needed.
