The 36MP sensor is technically better, yes. But there are a few reasons one might be attracted to the 24MP one anyway;
o) Price / performance (Probably. I don't know the prices.)
o) IQ / pixel
o) Sensitivity to lens IQ.
o) Pictures / memory card space
o) Raw processing HW requirements. Both in camera and while post-processing on computers/tablets.
Not that I think anyone would truly complain if we got the 36MP sensor though, at least if we get >4 FPS.
Actually, to entice users to buy new lenses, higher pixel count might make sens business-wise.
