Pentax! :) Nikon? :(

Given the timing of the announcements, which do you prefer: the exciting, forward-thinking and fabulous but APS-c K-3 or the dastardly, stay-in-place, re-call avoiding full frame D610?

Have they released any reliable information on the K-3? I'm sure they'll both be great cameras.

I hear the K-3 has a molecular-level martini shaker built into the sensor. Whereas the Nikon's shutter/mirror assembly has been redesigned for greater accuracy in tossing the olive into the glass, not the sensor.

Handled a D600. It seemed huge compared to my K5. I imagine the same will be true K3 vs D610. Besides, I have plenty of Pentax mount lenses and no Nikon mount, so I'm good.

I don't need FF. I need better AF, high burst rate, quiet shutter, and WR. Fortunately the new k-3 looks like it ticks off every one of those boxes (crossing my fingers on the shutter sound).

We must not forget the corporate attitudes involved here (or at least the internet maven versions thereof): Ricoh is smiling, somewhat apologetically, yet proudly, giving the Pentax enthusiast some genuinely new and photographically meaningful functionality in a consistent, yet forward looking package.

Nikon is showing its fans the back of their hand, cynically chaning a 0 to a 1 and putting in the shutter they should have in the first place; leaving us D600 owners in the lurch, our cameras for ever consigned to the Lemon bin by history (and the internet pundits).

The K-3 is a dream come true; the D610 is a warmed-over nightmare

I don't understand why Nikon is releasing the new D610 so soon; seems to me that the D600 just came out recently, much later than the K-5 II/s releases. If it is just a minor bug fixes, then why not just simply a firmware update or even D600 II releases. Seems to me that other camera models (Canikony) want to confuse the 'poor' consumers with many models to choose (and that is a good strategy I guess, the more they are confused, the more they will buy).

Even though I have more old Pentax lenses than Nikon, the D600 still has a mechanical aperture setting linkage, so it works as intended with all AI lenses, and even the oldest F lenses can be AI modified. Looking at the AI used lens prices it wouldn't be that expensive to switch...

I'm probably missing something but I haven't seen any confirmed information on the Pentax K-3.

Having said that, I am happy with my K-5. Also my K10D and K-m. All seem to do a great job with photo's....even up to my maximum blow up of 11 X 14 or so.

I've seen blow ups done by guys with Canon 5D2's, Nikon D600's, Canon 6D...all full frame of course.

To be honest.....I think that when a camera...whether it's an ASP-C at the level of a K-5, Nikon D300s or Canon 7D....or a full framer like a 5D2, 6D, D600....it comes down to the photographer, the lighting conditions, lens quality (I use Pentax 12-24, 40/70 Limiteds, 10-17 Fisheye, etc), photography knowledge....more than it does to whether or not the photographer is using a top quality full framer or top quality ASP-C.

Until I can mount k mount lenses on a Nikon, I am not particularly interested.

The D610 really seems to be just a fix of D600 problems more than anything else -- no particular new or cutting edge features, otherwise.

What you missed is the official K-3 section on Ricoh Imaging USA's website - they published it too early, took it out and soon it will be back.

Ok, I see the specs are up at BH. It sure looks like a nice camera, on par with the D7100. The technology for turning the AA filter on and off sounds amazing, but we'll have to see if their AF module is truly up to snuff, and they don't appear to have made any changes to the flash system.

I can imagine how the D600 resale viability/price will be hit if they do launch the D610.
Its basically an admission to the sensor stain/shutter issue and not admitting it at the same time.

Over here, the owner is on their own once warranty (1yr) expires.
Any cleaning from then on is chargeable.
