And no reason for any of these either! Why cannibalize current sales? Unlike Canon and Nikon, Pentax is small enough to be able to keep most of their secrets until close to announcement time. And this is exactly what they've done, historically. Who should it be any different now?

Originally posted by EricBrown I'm not trying to fan the FF rumors, but just reporting what I heard yesterday. I purchased some items at my local camera store outside of Washington, DC, Ace Photo. They are a very large retailer and actually have decent counter space. Anyway, the owner did tell me the Pentax will be releasing a FF camera and it will announced at Photokina. Plus, they will be bringing back a number of older FF lenses. He is a Pentax shooter, using the 645D. Ace is very well connected with all the brands and I hope what he told me is for real!
Whether or not he has inside info, he's probably right.
Just think about it. If Pentax were to release 2 FF models, they'd instantly be viewed as on par with Nikon and Canon - and above schizophrenic Sony who can barely maintain 1 FF DSLR. Plus they have the 645Z which puts them above the others.
Most consumers view both Canon and Nikon as having just 2 FF models each (1 entry and 1 mainstream). $6000 pro models just aren't part of the picture for them. Pentax isn't ready to provide the full Pro support for that market anyway, so they can avoid it for now.
The only fly in the ointment would be if any Medium Format or FF mirrorless models are announced by Canon or Nikon. But neither has a ready MF lens lineup, so I think the whole MF market is unrealistic for them, unless they adapt/adopt someone else's mount. That leaves only FF mirrorless as the wild card, but for all we know Pentax is doing something there too.
