I find it difficult to believe you can see any noise at all in a blue sky at ISO 100 and web resolution.

I think the whole point is that SNR at pixel level is a major and the most important contributor to image quality. Physics and math agree to this. Countless other photographers have seen verifiable results. It is something that you can't deny.

A 16mp full frame is the best for me. I will go with 24mp if it improves the performance of the D3s sensor. 36Mp is insane and truly just a waste of space with no advantages aside from size which nobody uses anyway.

SNR at a pixel level means nothing to me at 50MP. At 5MP maybe it does.

Hey, you do not have to believe in physics and math (although the constant reference to dxomark says otherwise). Just remember that just because someone does not believe in gravity does not mean it wont kill them.

Crash and burn with your 50Mp full frame. I don't care if you do either

I believe in physics and math, and using them appropriately.

Basically, most of what you say in here and on your blog is sketchy. You were taken apart by Joseph James and others on dpreview, why do you persist?

The D700, for example, looks no better at any equal sized-print compared to the D800, at any ISO. I owned both at the same time for a year, I know. Eric Fossum, John Sheehy, Bob Newman (great informative thread on MP), Bill Claff, many others who actually work in or have worked in the sensor-design and image processing fields have weighed in, and the verdict is clear.

Here's some of Bill Claff's PDR-related analysis if you don't feel like following links today:

As far as being able to take advantage of the resolution, many others have weighed in on this as well, and we're not done at 36MP, not by a long shot. There are dozens of analytic takes on this, free for the finding.

I have had better discussions in other forums regarding LIGHT superiority of larger sensors (which is false btw). People have "seen the light". Joseph James is an idiot for completely ignoring the effect of focal length on light intensity. He wrote a very long essay for nothing. His fundamental understanding of photography is wrong. Very very wrong. Quite unfortunate that peope swallowed him just like that.

And no, I'm not going to discuss that again in here. Read and re-read my blog and you might finally get it. Just like others who did after several days of discussion.

There's nothing for me to get. Your blog is wrong, I'm not sure how to put it any more nicely than that.

I think Pentax should go with Sony's new 36MP sensor which it plans to use in the A99 replacement. This is a generation newer than what Nikon is using in the D800.

I don't think Pentax has the support technology/hardware to make 54MP work. It would have have to be a dual processor body with a huge buffer and much larger batteries. We should be seeing the next generation of sensors from Sony. The new A99II will have a new sensor. An improved 36MP sensor would be nice, but Pentax would have to lower the frame rate. A new 24MP sensor with hardware based AA filter would allow Pentax to keep the performance specs of the K-3 and share hardware. The 24MP allows Pentax to keep costs down.
