Are you ready for Pentax FF?

As i noticed a lot of forum users were ready for 645z and immediately got it despite it’s cost.
So my question is are you ready for FF? Do you have money? Do you have lenses?

I expect the price will be competitive, if so, not a problem. I have the lenses. Sold two FF lenses, the Sigma 150-500 and the FA50mm F/1.4. I'm selling about one lens a month.

Just bought a Nikon 70-200mm. It's a bit of a downer, I'm disappointed that my needs have changed and Pentax hasn't yet made good on it's promise to be a full-line manufacturer.

So we'll see what lenses I have left when the FF comes out.

Absolutely ready for it, at a competitive price, of course. Most of my lenses are 35FF compatible, and I'm expecting it would have an APS-C mode for DA lenses that vignette enough to warrant it (it's probably not a deal-breaker if it doesn't, though I can't see why it wouldn't crop in software).

I already got an A7 for my Pentax FF lenses.
But I will still buy a Pentax FF the moment it comes out, knowing that AF works, and Pentax makes a better thought out camera.

I have the money tucked away - perhaps not what Pentax wants to charge initially, however it will be about a year (or so) after it comes out - if it comes out. I am in no great hurry. I want to see what actually comes out and how it performs - with older glass. It would help with the wide angle shooting. I do think I have the lenses to make a full frame sensor worthwhile - I think that the quality of the older glass should complement the sensor, reasonably well. It's what I have, so that's what I'll use.
  • Voightlander 20/f3.2
  • Zeiss 25/f2.8 Distagon ZK,
  • Contax Zeiss 28mm /f2.8 Distagon T*
  • Leica R 28mm /f2.8 Elmarit
  • K 28/f3.5 Shift,
  • FA 31/f1.8 Ltd,
  • SMC Tak 50/f1.8
  • A 50/f1.7
  • Contax Zeiss 85mm/f2.8 Sonnar T*,
  • Auto Tak 85/f1.8
  • Tak 135/f2.8
  • M 150/f3.5
  • A* 300/f4
.... but, then again - I am quite satisfied with my K5. I am not dying for a new body, nor holding my breath for a FF.

I have some suitable lenses (FA 35 f2, A 50 f1.4, FA100 f2.8, Bower 85 f1.4,Tokina AT-X Pro I 28-70 f2.6-2.8 etc) but maybe not the budget (unless its particularly competitive!).

Your lenses should work fine except the Voigtlander 20/3.5, which is what it is off centre (not that good and a compromise for the pancake size)
The rest either I have used on Sony A7 or someone else has.

So better start saving for the camera.

Even if by some miracle, it should come out on photokina, If it's below $4000, I'm pretty much set. Got the lenses too: FA limited series, Tokina 28-70 as a normal zoom, A*85 for portraits, A 20/2.8 for wide angle, tokina and elicar 90 macros etc.

If pentax doesn't do it, I'm probably going to go adapted as soon as someone that's not Sony releases a mirrorless FF. But a Pentax DSLR would of course be preferable.

If the price is comparable to a D610 (or A7r), I'll buy it shortly after it is released - and after other users have discovered any show-stopper bugs . I have many lenses that will work on it straight away.

But the K-3 is a very good camera, so I don't feel any super-urgent need to rush my purchase.

Aside from having pretty much every K mount lens made from 1965 ~2014 I should be fine, though the APS-C specific lenses I do have: the sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 and Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 ASPH* both cannot be used on FX format ( with some pretty heavy restrictions) they have no peer in terms of optical quality (especially the sigma 8-16mm) so I will still be using my K5IIs.

*though if there is a crop mode on the FX format camera the APS-C specific lenses could still be used, the sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 can be used on APS-H format above 24mm without issue.

Pretty much the same boat there

On the lens front

AF Zooms:
Tamron 28-75 f2.8
Tamron 70-200 f2.8

AF Primes:
3 FA Limiteds
F28 f2.8 DA 40XS F50 f1.7 FA50 1.4 DFA100WR FA135 2.8

If Pentax FF becomes a reality I might get a F 17-28 Fisheye, because I love using my DA10-17 on K-5IIs

However I am not going to be a early adopter this time, I will wait for at least 6 months to see how users like theirs. If Pentax FF is not available this year I will get a A7 to adopt my lenses, I have already played with friend's A7r and have some idea what I can do with it, I even have the PK to NEX adapter ready to go...

Of course that's not to say that I am unhappy with my K-5IIs, far from it, it's a fantastic bit of kit.

What is "need" and what does it have to do with camera acquisitions?

Ready when they are; I would rather not buy a newly launched camera but wait a bit to confirm there are no significant bugs on the first batches. I'll also want some new, modern lenses, perhaps I'll start with that?
I'm in no hurry, I don't have to get everything at once.
