Pentax Full frame semi confirmed

hi

Well in least in my mind semi confirmed. I was at the Photo and film expo in South Africa and spoke to some of the reps at the stand. (PS awesome stand and nice support taking into account Nikon pulled from the show at the last second and might a lot of people upset). I was just in general talking trying to find out what this lens http://news.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/rim_info/2_telephotozoomlens_photokina2014.jpg. is

The Rep could not confirm what it is but when I asked if this was a new full frame 70-200 F2.8 lens I did get a big smile. (might not mean much). I also asked if they are then working on a 24-70 F2.8 but was just met with smiles. So I'm hopeful to some announcement in the not to distend future. As I have a few good FA* lenses I am looking forward to this. I also tried to get a date and is thinking this will happen next year.

PS the other lens might be a 150-400 as per the lens roadmap

In my experience, you cannot go by what a rep' might say, as, quite often, they are the last to find out about new products.

These lenses were both shown at Photokina a month or two ago. I'm glad you got a smile.
When all this is confirmed we'll all be smiling.

I have spoken to that Rep before previous years and have no reason not to trust him but only time will tell. So I am opening a savings account now for this. I know it wont be cheap but as I already have a few FA* long lenses that can benefit from lower noise for actions shots. As long as the camera has K3 or better level auto-focus and a high enough FPS I will be sold. Yes the photos is just a copy and paste form the Photokina stand. They did not have them here in RSA. Only had a K3 grey limited body. I would also then start looking for a FA*24 F2 and maybe pick up a few limiteds as well.

As luck would have it I have just committed to a FA*24/2.0 and a K135/2.5. With the Holy Trinity (31, 43, 77), DA*55, DFA100WR, Sigma 70-200/2.8 and DA*300 already in the bag I reckon I'm ready

I have a old Sigma 105mm APO DG macro that should be FF compatible. Not sure if the new Pentax 100MM limited macro is FF compatible. I then have a FA* 300 F2.8 a FA* 600 F4 and the excellent FA* 24-70 F2.8. ps is the DA* 300 F4 full frame compatible?

Why wouldn't it be? Isn't that why it's DFA not DA?

Someone must have tried it on a Pentax film camera.

SO many rumors, dashed hopes and disappointments. I'll believe it when I see it, not that it matters because I won't be buying one anyway. I have no need for it.

I think now that Ricoh is also backing them we have seen a lot of things we where hoping to see like the 1.4 converter. I am almost sure they are now working on FF but if it will ever be released and get past the R&D stage only time will tell.

I hope pentax continues to build DFA lenses with aperture rings, I think that there are still people who are "new" to film photography, that plan their lens acquisition based on compatibility with their
new digital and old film cameras as well. For example, I have been waiting for pentax to upgrade their lens coating on the FA 77mm or the barrel design of the FA* 85mm before buying one. If the new versions will be aperture-less, that leaves me no choice but to buy the older versions because i want shoot film as well ( DFA 100mm WR works in program and TV mode only with the MZ-S, Not even compatible with the LX,MX). Unless pentax wants to release a new film camera as well, very unlikely, but that would be nice.

Agreed and if the new lens design is anything to go by then Pentax have decided that future lenses will not feature aperture rings. Note Cannon and Nikon also went this route and I am sure it is to save cost on the new Lenses. If they update the FA limited they might also the aperture rings.
