I vote for "XK" for the first Full Frame camera.

This instantly differentiates it from the APS-C cameras and gives you multiple directions to go in naming for the future.

no, it doesn't. it creates confusion as Pentax have already had two camera using K and X. Especially if they were reversed. They also would never use a naming from a vintage camera of another make when they got so many of their own that they could borrow names from... specifically the LX which many people would love for this camera to be named after. They are building this camera for the fans, to prove they listen. They wouldn't do something silly like indirectly pay homage to a product released by what was at one time a Pentax competitor.


There are so many naming conventions they could go down, including using the MZ series designation, using the * designation. (K*ist?), LX, or K-___ that would pay homage to the fans.

I like KA or KF with a number if it most have a K in the name. Now Richo own Pentax, so R1 or R7 is my vote. Leica had the R series, but that was only film cameras and for more than 10 years ago. Probably Leica R users raise their eyebrow then they see the R.

The R8 and R9 had a digital module, so... they could shoot digital too.

Also Leica would sue them out of existence.

I really hope that Pentax sticks to the K-S1 system. Change the S to a letter that denotes (mid range) FF, and stick to that. Number it through... 1, 2, 3, ... every new version gets a new number. If they, say, introduce a top of the line FF, that will get a different letter. If they introduce an entry level FF, different letter. Then they need one for the midrange APS-C (K-50 series) and one for top of the line APS-C, and eventually maybe entry level APS-C. Such a system would last forever, and once people understand the letters it is a very easy system.

It will be K2 (or K2D), no doubt about that.
The only other option is that Ricoh will come out with some name totally out of Pentax nomenclature, like KR-10 for example.

It needs to be a new name series so it's not confused with the APS-C range, so hopefully not 'K' anything. Besides if it's called a K-2 what will the K-3's sucessor be called? FF compliments the APS-C range. It doesn't replace anything.

I like K2D and KLX for a vintage looking version . The confusion with the apsc is possible, so, if they gonna leave the K, I would like it to be LD-1 or LXD-1.

My guess is it will be a Pentax XR or KR. Ricoh's film cameras shared the K-mount, and they were labeled as XR's and KR's. Maybe they'd do double nod and it could be the LXR (melding the LX with the XR titles).

I lean towards KF-1, K for the K-mount, F for Full frame and one for the first in the series, quick and easy to pronounce. The F1 was a Canon and FF-1 looks ugly. And insist on a lower priced basic full frame KF-1000 companion for photography students, with the features of a film KX as a minimum, that will become the substitute of the film K1000. Yeah!
