KAF3 mount; bye bye screw-drive?

If the spec at photorumors is correct, the camera will have a KAF3 mount. Bye bye screw drive lenses?

Highly doubt it. Couldn't cripple a top end camera so as to not permit use of FA Ltds or DA lenses without DC motor.

This rumor is definitely wrong. Unless they issue a new mount, I do not think ricoh will give up support of legacy FF lenses...

From the 3d printed photo, you can find FA 31mm is there also.

I think they will add contacts to the new DF A series lenses in order to allow the body to automatically set crop and full frame modes. I fully expect to be able to also manually set this. I'm also thinking that these new lenses appear to have optical shake reduction and they will need a way to tell the camera that this is enabled so it can shut off in body stabilization in that situation.

None of which would indicate that the kaf3 mount is losing screw drive.

No, that's the new HDWRDC31Ltd

Camera will, by the way, come with HDWRDC43Ltd as standard lens.

Looks like just a rumour with guessing going on. I know if screw drive lenses could not be used, that would immediately kill any idea of me buying the camera.

Not going to happen.

If screw drive eventually disappears, it will be lost first on the lowest end cameras, not on the upper end ones. Just look at Nikon. People don't complain about lack of in body focus motors on entry level cameras, but if they dropped it on the D800, Nikonians would be up in arms.

I assume its taken from the two new D-FA lenses that have: Mount = KAF3 in the specifications, and its just copied from there.

why would they need to add an extra contact? The lens already has it's own identifier in the chip, and that data is passed to the camera through the data contact.

I thought the extra contact had to do with the new auto focus modes that are going to be usable on the new glass, but I guess not, if the K3 is going to have a firmware update that allows them.

The focal length is also passed to the camera. Non AF lenses don't have a chip, that is why you have ro manually input the focal length for SR. But there aren't any manual focus DA lenses...I,mmnot sure about the Samyang lenses, but they are FF anyway.
