I'm sure there will be a kit lens announced with the camera that broadly matches what the other players offer as an entry level lens. Marketing and the need to match price points will dictate this.

In due course, we'll see a DFA* lens equivalent to the DA* 16-50 F2.8, so most likely a 24-70 or 28-75 at F2.8. We may be teased with a pre-production version of this near to when the FF camera arrives to allow Ricoh to flag the path ahead and keep the faith with prospective FF buyers. Judging by the new 70-200 pricing, it looks as though new DFA* lenses are going to be a price point above what we are used to for DA* gear. The newish Tamron 24-70 F2.8 FF zoom is meant to be pretty good and I'm sure Tamron will release a Pentax FF version when the time comes. But note that Tamron has reset upwards the price point for its new premium lenses - the 24-70 is USD1200 or thereabouts. I'm going to take a wild guess and say a DFA* equivalent will come to market at USD1799 RRP, and an eventual street price around USD1500-1600.

And if you want to stay APS-C, I wouldn't be holding my breath for a DA*16-50 update to DC motor/HD coatings anytime soon. Resources clearly are going to prioritised to FF lenses for the next couple of years.

Why does an expensive FF camera need a kit lens?

They should update their 17-70mm f4 and make it a FF f/2.8

I would guess a 24-105 F4. Pretty standard stuff for a FF.

Could also be a 24-80 if Pentax wants to make it cheaper.
This is the most likely choice. I don't know what the price point for the new FF will be, but you can bet it's not in the bottom consumer camera range, so you wont see a kit lens targeted to that market segment.

You will find the FA43 is the most useful of the Limited lenses on FF and it will finally get the attention it deserves.

I hope they make a statement considering this is not an entry level camera.....either in line with their roots with a prime....one of the FA Ltds....a new 50/1.4 or 28/1.4, or a new D-FA* 16-70 zoom to complete the new line-up?

FA43 fits their slim model the best - just look at the new 18-55 for the K-S2. I imagine they'd make it a "D-FA" with new coatings and quick-shift.

On the one hand I think Ricoh would do well to package one of the Limited or the FA 50mm f/1.4. They could also do a premium package that includes all three of the Limiteds. Something similar is already done with the Q line.

They will definitely need some sort of zoom lens to choose from as well. IQ will need to trump everything here. Forget about a general purpose vacation lens. I agree with others who have posted ideas of a 24/28-70/90mm range. It's wide enough to be useful but not so wide that the designers need to start introducing heavy compromises for the sake of zoom range. The FA 28-105 f/3.2 is a nice lens and I would love to see an updated version of that design.

Everything I see until now, Ricoh offers/will offer a real Pro setup - camera & lenses also in price. A cheap kit lens doesn't make sense in my opinion. If you want one, you can use one from die DA-line in crop mode - maybe the 16-85mm would be the right and well balanced alternative.

As a FF kit lens I really would like to see something like a DFA f2.8(-4)/20-50mm (ideal for indoor and landscape shooting) that weights and doesn't cost too much - very different from other offerings and so maybe a reason to switch over. Don't know if this is possible.

Just don't release it with the FA-J 28-80. That was my first kit lens it was pretty bad. Poor contrast, prone to flare. I guess it did auto focus pretty quickly.

It sounds like you have a bad copy. I have gotten excellent results with mine when stopped down to f/5.6-f/10 depending on the zoom range.

Because Johnny Hipster Moneypants is going to want a camera as a spur of the moment thing, and go right for the most expensive camera he can get without being part of 'the Herd' and is going to want a lens with his new toy he'll use for a week then set aside never to touch again.

Nah, too high quality. Think Lomo and instant film.

Don't know how many "Moneypants" people you know, but most are quite a lot more thoughtful with how they spend their money. Which is a big part of the reason they have it. The "rich and stupid" crowd is actually very small, although most of them are also famous so it makes it seem rich folk are all vapid.
